re: Who Won the 2nd Presidential Debate?

I've been channel surfing mostly between CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, and ABC News, and much to my amazement the concensus seems to be that either Bush won or it was a draw. The instant polls say different.

The media is differing...
but if FOX is allowing it to say Kerry won, then he did.

re: Who Won the 2nd Presidential Debate?

I have no problem admitting if the Republicans had won the debate - I'll admit that Cheney did very well for the VP debate - but I really don't see how anyone could think that Bush beat Kerry! He was loud, tempermental, at times incoherent, petulant...An improvement from last debate, but hardly the winner.

FOX NEWS POLL:

* If you can believe it, according to FOX NEWS POLL Bush gained 16% in the last 90 minutes. Seems odd, no? At this rate they'll show Bush having won by morning.

re: Who Won the 2nd Presidential Debate?

Bush did a much much better job, but I give to Kerry to two reasons:

1. The description that Type A Tiff gave as well as snapping at Charles Gibson. He was tense and he came off angry where Kerry was relaxed and poised.

2. Bush completely effed up the environment question and wasn't able to admit mistakes in the last question--he more or less dodged.

My personal opinion is that Kerry has the facts and specifics. Bush dealt with generalization. Kerry offers plans to better the country. Bush was unable to offer anything new. More importantly, Kerry can be both a commander in chief and a diplomat. Bush is not a diplomat, and that is a crucial part of being President.

And Floweryfriend, you're no fan of Kerry's, right? so your impression has interesting weight. I find the responses to this debate among pro-Bush folk the most compelling, because he wasn't the incoherent rambler of last week, yet still failed to offer details or fresh ideas in response after response.

Auggie, I don't necessarily think Flowery is a Bush supporter. If I'm not mistaken, she gravitated toward Kucinich during the primaries. I believe her problem is with John Edwards.

CNN QUICKVOTE POLL:
BUSH 21%
KERRY 76%
TIE 1%

MSNBC POLL:
BUSH 33%

FOX NEWS POLL:
BUSH 53% *
KERRY 46%

* FOX NEWS POLL shows Bush receiving 53% of the vote. Interesting that as of 11:40PM EST last night they were showing Kerry receiving 70% of the vote and Bush only 30%. That's a gain of 23% for Bush. I'll have to add that to my list of things that make me go Hmmmmm.

Once again I state.... The ONLY poll that counts is the one on Election Day.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

re: Who Won the 2nd Presidential Debate?

3rd debate I think will be like the first.

Kerry still hasn't shown how he's going to do all the work he plans to do without raising taxes on the middle class.

re: Who Won the 2nd Presidential Debate?

i'm watching the debate on CNN's website right now since I wasn't home last night. Bush came ready to play this time, at least. i think he kept getting distracted by whatever he was drawing on his legal pad during Debate #1. much tougher to call, but I'd still give Kerry an edge on this one.

ouch, rough answer on the Supreme Court question. that's pretty ballsy, taking a stance against slavery.

re: Who Won the 2nd Presidential Debate?

Kerry won it. Like it was said on one TV show last night, it didn't matterw ho won. The press wanted headlines, so they would proclaim Bush as the victor regardless so that they can hype the third debate.

Kerry slammed Bush and laid out his policy plans.
Bush didn't no much other than say "don't vote for him". We saw NO statement on how he would turn things around. He was tempramental, and I was offended at how he treated Charlie Gibson.

The anti-abortion woman disturbed me.

re: Who Won the 2nd Presidential Debate?

yeah I just saw that part. i don't quite understand how so many women can be anti-abortion. To give two great Carlin quotes-

"Banning abortion isn't pro-life, it's anti-woman."

"These ultra-Republicans just want live babies so they can grow up to become dead soldiers."
