I am so glad this is out - bought season one a few years ago and have been looking forward to this one.
Does anyone know when Sue Ann Nivens (Betty White) began appearing on the show? I'm hoping it was season two. She was my favorite character.
I think I remember reading that she first came on Season 4. How many seasons of MTM were there? 6 or 7?
i've been waiting for this for years. yippeee!!!! (throws hat in air...) my favorite character was phyllis. it is my theory that all women are in some way one of the 5 MTM archetypes. mary (good girl) rhoda (earthy, wise cracking survivor) phyllis (brittle & cerebral feminist at war with herself) sueanne ( sensualist/slut) georgette (child-woman) i always figured i was mary-- afraid that i'm becoming phyllis-- and dying to be sueanne.
If you like the show, buy it. The reason you've waited so long between seasons, is because Season One was one of the worst-selling DVDs, ever!
Okay, I’m bored at work and devoting way too much thought to “The Sue Ann Nivens Question,” but did Valerie Harper and Betty White actually overlap as regulars? I thought Sue Ann became a regular character after Rhoda left.
The episode that introduced Sue Ann (where Phyllis thought Sue Ann and Lars were having an affair) was in the fourth season (‘73-‘74), but “Rhoda” didn’t debut until the beginning of the fifth season (‘74-‘75). Was Sue Ann introduced in season four and not made a regular until season five?

Ewwwwwwwwww Beav what do you take me for?
I did not snap my fingers. LOL.
My copy is in the mail...and don't blame me for the wait...I bought the first season when it was first released!
Sue Ann looks like she started in season 4, according to www.tvtome.com
You are so smart, GG...notice that these archetypes reappear on "Golden Girls"--the wise-cracking survivor X 2, the sensualist, the child woman, all with proto-feminist veneers. These, I think, account for the continuing popularity of both shows. We luv us some archetypes.
I just bought mine at Wal-Mart.
Season 1 was indeed one of the worst-selling TV on DVD sets of all time. However, that was before TV on DVD took on. We'll see how Season 2 sells...
Anyone else think the Mary character came off like a whore?
no, convinceme-also, i believe you are alone in that regard.
Disc 3 is double-sided. Yuck!
Hey! It only took about 20 years for that set to get released. Quit complainin' will ya!
Exactly - waited 20 years for this release. Why not make it great?
I read somewhere each disc costs $.40.
Whatever. In the end, I'm glad to have it.
bought it last night and watched the first 5 while puttering around my apartment. phyllis had the BEST clothes. you must see her long mary quant-ish skirts. cloris had just won the oscar -- so she was the "special guest star" and nancy walker was only a "guest star". nancy walker reminds me very much of jackie hoffman.
