Why oh why do people start threads named "Who or what is your favorite ____________ (singular noun)?" and then proceed to publish a list so plural as to to take up several column inches?

That is a good point, Namo--wasn't the question singular? Listing more than one does take out the agony and fun of only getting to choose one. Listing your entire CD collection (or every actress on Broadway; or every show written after 1995)--no work at all!
