Miss Liquor is a freaking goddess. I've seen her live six times...we WORSHIPPED her in San Francisco. She's not quite as big here in New York, sadly.

oh my.
Well, yeah, Shirley Q. is from my neck o' the woods. I have friends who know her.
And, while most of her act is definitely stand-up, there's little doubt in my mind she was inspired by Pearly Tolliver, a charming cafeteria lady at my college who, on weekends, hosted a gospel program that was 1 part bad gospel music (seriously, bad stuff) and 4 parts Pearly doing radio ads. It was drop-dead hysterical.
"This pertion of the program is where Pearly stops and makes her some munny. Pearly be running shert on the munny."

I used to have a cassette of several of Pearly's radio shows. I'm not certain SHirley is completely created from Pearly but there is a connection for sure.
I never ate in the cafeteria where Pearly worked (because it was crappy food) unless I could see PEarly working the line. She would say the craziest things...one of her favorite phrases was, "check it out and...lock, lock it down."

that was my first Shirly bit too -- I just about peed my pants when she was pricing the tickets and after learning child fares start at 11 she say "Oh they all under 11"
