Shira;
I just want you to know tha you don't have to let them treat you like that. Piss them off a little. It will do them good. o one is going to stop paying for your education or supporting you. Thats just a game they play because they think it works.

DAME's comment is true.
My dad's way of keeping me in shape when I was a teen was to tell me, when I did something bad, "What are you trying to do, kill your mother?" I was so terrified of killing mom, that I was very well behaved. Until I realized that my behaviour was not about to kill her at all. Unfortunately that wasn't until my early 20s.

I wonder what brd has to say about it...

There's talking back and then there's talking back.
Yes, you can talk back to your parents.

Posted: 10/21/05 at 1:12pmShira - are they really this mean? That would be my first question. And, have you discussed these issues with them?

They love me, I know that. They just have really screwy ways of showing it.
And though I may exxagerate at times, what they said is almost verbatim (almost because I didn't write it down).
I talk to them...but they think they're doing the right thing. They really do.

Like I said before, let them know, without it being a fight or confrontation, how their comments make you feel. The same way we want to say "I love you", we need to be able to say "what you're saying is hurtful because..."
Anyway, I really must dash. I've been at work for over an hour and I've been here the entire time.
Tarrah!

Posted: 10/21/05 at 1:22pmI think I'm in a back-and-forth stage, right now. Whether or not I like my Mom or Dad better, because, well, I can't despise both of them TOO much at the same time.

Posted: 10/21/05 at 1:29pmShira. I think you are great. The thought of anyone treating you like that makes my blood boil. But parents only try to do what is best for you. Only you can make them understand you better. They are human you know. You need to stand up for yourself. Give them a little tough love. And one question.. at what age can one say they have had enough of going to all these freaking barmitzvahs? I stopped at 18 and just refused.
