I just got it for Christmas, and I need to know how to move a family of four (well, there four roomies. And the difficult level is at three points. That could add to it) into a lot and it's not letting me. How do I do this?
Sorry if I seem like a giant dumbass, it's my second time playing it and I'm really confused, because my first time I was able to move a married couple with no hassle--but for whatever reason, a family of four roomies is harder.

Posted: 12/25/09 at 8:41pmWhere is the family? Did you just create them? If so, you will have to find a home or an empty lot that they can afford. I think you begin the game with $20,000 Simoleans.

Theatrefan,
You are missing out! Sims 2 was good fun and 3 has taken it to an all new level. The fact that they can roam outside their homes and interact in all new ways is AMAZING.
Anyway, once you build the family, you can move them into a home in the town if they can AFFORD it. They can move into a place that has been constructed or you can buy and empty lot and build the house. With that starting cash of $20,000 it may be smarter to build your own or buy a place unfurnished so you don't run out of cash before the Simsies start working.

World Adventures is GREAT fun. The way you can integrate travel into your game now is just amazing. One of my sims is very well traveled, has explored a great number of the tombs and collected a lot of souvenirs along the way.

I want this game badly, but I have not permitted myself to buy it (or request it for Christmas) because I know how much time it sucks from me. I bought Sims 2 and the College expansion packs the day they came out and I'm pretty sure I've lost about a year of my life to those games. I feel like I am forced to be productive when I don't have time-wasters like that around to distract me. Facebook is bad enough!
But all your talk about it REAAAALLLYYY makes me want to go pick it up.
Are any of you running it on a laptop (specifically a MacBook)? I've always had a desktop when I've run the games in the past, but my MacBook is my primary computer now. I'm worried that the program would run slowly or the graphics would suffer on a laptop. Any input?

I have a mac. Took a while to get used to the game on it, but my mac doesn't run any slower because of it. At least I don't think it.
It does suck a lot of time from me, which is why I only play it during vacations etc. I could decorate those houses all day. So fun.

Colleen--
I play it on my Macbook Pro.
The Sims, by and large, is the most addictive Comp game out there. Hands down. I failed a class in college because of the The Sims 1. You play and play and play and time literally vanishes without a trace.
I have found the cheats really do live up their name. I find the more I use them the more I'm robbed out of a full experience of the game. It's a little less fun because I can get out of trouble financially, can adjust their mood if needed, etc... There should be some sort of built in penalty for the use of the cheat codes.

Real talk. Last Summer, I spent most of my free time simming. Your sims have to do so much- careers(I hate that you need friends to get a promotion), lifetime wants, relationships! And if you have a legacy, forget it. The only thing that made me stop was a computer crash.
