This is why the join date helps imply a poster's validity. You can almost bet someone's post is suspect when you see they have joined in the last couple of days.

I bet we see a number of new personas on 11/2/04 and 11/3/04.

Some people amuse themselves by making others angry. The fact that what they say might actually have meaning and consequences never occurs to them. Becuase as long as they're entertained, who cares?

I know exactly what you mean, Iflit. There was a time when you knew everyone's screen name and the personailty or persona that went with it. Whether people were having pleasant discussions or arguments, you knew the players, They weren't afraid to post their view and have everyone know where it was coming from. The board was a lot more interesting then.

Now when someone says something controversial or expresses an unpopular opinion, they have their second personality and their friend's other personalities sign in to back them up.

In the case of Rodney, I don't undertsand why a person who has been a member for a while and is generally liked by many on the board, has to create a persona that is used strictly to tear the board apart and create conflict, crowding the board with stupid comments. I would think a person would be satisfied that they have an online personality already who is liked and that would be enough for them.

One of the theories I've heard through the pm chain is that the purpose of this is for a small group of people to "Highjack" therads and take control. It's a dammned message board, not an oil rich country in the Middle East. I would love to what the accomplishment is in "Taking Over" the board.

I sometimes come on here, look over the therads and don't bother logging in becasue there is little to nothing worth responding to. I miss the days when Papa made points that caused me to think and consider another point of view, when people like Dollypop, Albin and Chrislovesshows shared their vast knowledge of BW history and Onceadancer told stories of the old days in theater that you would never know except from someone who lived it.

Now we have the same four or so people signing in as eight different personalities and creating controversy for the sake of their own entertainment and whatever thrill they get out of causing trouble. I can only say that hope these people are not actors. The fact that so many here can see through them would indicate that they would be pretty bad actors.

Ifliti, I've been AlDente or "AlD" since back in the good old days of Broadway.com. Are you talking about the *fact* that I often get accused of being certain, wonderful columnists? It amuses and flatters me far more than it annoys me. You know how it is around here, if you like something, you must have an affiliation and if you don't, you must be a disgruntled, ex-employee. Either way, I'm just plain old Al, as always. "A seven yr old spelling prodigy" according to Craig.

Just a random thought... If there are "famous" people posting here, I think they like the anonymity of a screen name. And a great past time for us trying to figure out who is and who isn't "famous"

I actually have quite a few identities- on different forums. Only one per board, though. I mostly do it because I'm paranoid, not because I want to mess with people's heads. So I have one name here, one name for Baseball Primer, etc.

People who play with sock puppets are pathetic. If you can't defend your views through legitimate argument, deal with it. Don't create fake people to back you up. And if you piss off people on the board, you should deal with that, too. (I know I have, though not really here.) If you want to start over, fine, but having more than one identity isn't just against the letter of the law (board policy), it's against the spirit of it, too.

That said, the problem isn't nearly as bad here as I've seen it on other boards, where people are creating fake lawyer usernames to threaten each other with lawsuits. Stupid 14-year-olds.
