It's usually Ford logos, but twice this week I saw Calvin peeing on President Obama. Why does he do that?

At least it seems like the President is enjoying it.
Is Obama saying "Ahhhhhhhhhh?"

I think compared to what Eric Cantor does this feels like spring rain.
It actually looks to me like he's peeing on Gilbert Gottfried.
Which makes a lot more sense.

My curiosity led me to do some research- There is no such thing as a legally licensed Calvin and Hobbes product. Apart from the actual strips, a handful of books and a couple calenders, the artist Bill Waterson has never approved anything- no T-shirts, no stickers, and certainly no images of Calvin peeing on anything. I just don't get how a character that has been out of production for close to two decades is still the "go-to" guy when you want to show contempt for something.
Because I can't afford any of those Whoopi Goldberg pads, if you must ask. Thanks for pointing it out to everybody.

Sorry Calvin! My original curiosity stemmed from my instinctive feeling that Calvin WOULDN'T do that. I wondered if the original (I think) peeing-on-the-Ford logo stemmed from an ad or something- or a strip where Calvin peed on something but, no. he never peed in the strip. And as i said above, never licensed anything.
More recently, I've seen them not as Calvins but as more a generic looking boy in a baseball cap peeing, so maybe they've finally gotten them under control.
I'll bet other comic artists would have jumped at the marketing chance. Public urination is probably a daily part of life for such alcoholic characters as Snuffy Smith, Hagar the Horrible, that neighbor to Hi and Lois and Rex Morgan, MD.

I once saw Bart Simpson but I don't recall what he was tinkling on. He'd totally do it.
I wanna see Brenda Star Peeing on a Ford logo...or Mary Worth!
I had a friend who build a Calvin and Hobbes puppet set to pitch a live action show. Bill Waterson was NOT happy at all!

Watterson. Bill Watterson. Who, btw, had it with the cartoon syndicates trying to dictate his art. His response: he retired. That's why we no longer have Calvin & Hobbes. One of the best comics ever.
Watterson was also not afraid to go meta on the whole situation about the pressures to merchandise:
