Why does Coke Zero make my throat hurt?

I know it's a weird thread, but humor me here. I searched Google - maybe someone knows this odd trivia.
I went to a party last night and drank a lot of Coke Zero, which is a really good drink. Today, I wake up, and I'm singing along to a cast recording, and my throat is killing, and I can't really hit any notes.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Posted: 6/11/07 at 10:39pmNo, you probably have unrelated allergies.

Posted: 6/11/07 at 10:59pmMany years ago Cherry 7-up was my favorite drink. If I drank it from a can I would have a horribly scratchy painful throat very shortly thereafter. They eventually stopped making it, I think. It didn't happen to anyone else that I knew.

I've spent most of my adult life being refreshingly allergy-free. A few weeks ago I attended an orientation for a new job and there were sodas and cookies on hand. I initially ignored them because I've recently lost 40 pounds, but the orientation ended up being over four hours long and as I felt my blood sugar drop I eventually gave in. Every bite of the freshly baked Otis Spunkmeyer chocolate chip cookie made the inside of my mouth burn and the diet Coke only seemed to exacerbate the problem. After that, I tried my best NOT to eat the cookie but the meeting droned on and on and on and eventually I would feel myself start to get woozy again so I'd take another bite and have the same reaction. I don't have any food allergies that I'm aware of, but something in that cookie was causing a reaction. Granted, as food allergies go that's a minor reaction. I was a good long way from anaphylactic shock, but still - some ingredient from that cookie was causing an unpleasant reaction with my system in some way. Throughout that interminable meeting I even tried doing an experiment with a hypothesis and control, but all I had to work with was a cookie, a 20 ounce bottle of Diet Coke and a handbook so it was far from laboratory settings.
You're having an allergic reaction to something, but it might not be related to Coke Zero. It could have been an element at the party.

Posted: 6/12/07 at 10:26amIt's possible it isn't the Coke Zero at all. It could be any number of things. If I even just think about strep, I get an infection, I'm so susceptible to it.

Posted: 6/12/07 at 10:46amI was going to post basically what Mister Matt said, but I was thinking more along the lines of: you were at a party, so you probably were talking/yelling all night. Your voice/chords may just be hoarse. Rest, and drink lots of water.

Thanks for your suggestions, guys. To answer your questions, no one was smoking, I poured the Coke from the bottle to a plastic cup, and no, I didn't hallucinate.
Coke Zero has hurt my throat before, just never this much. I've been sucking on mints all day to make it feel a little better. My ears feel stuffed, too.
Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, guys.
