Tina Brown writes in the Washington Post: "A People magazine poll show(s) 62 percent of readers dismissing the Tom/Katie liaison as a publicity stunt."
I don't buy it, but why not? I know the rumors, but why has THIS liason not been bought hook line & sinker like all Tom's other Romances? Is it really that much harder to buy Holmes that it was to buy Cruz...or Kidman? Are we more skeptical now?
Fascinating article....
It's only Publicity Love!
The two best parts of this wonderful article;
1) "Maybe there's been some alarming secret studio poll that proves scientifically (or Scientologically?) that Cruise's weirdness/asexuality rating is at an all-time high."
and
2) "As I watched the performance with my 14-year-old daughter, she remarked equably: "This would be so sweet if it wasn't so fake.""
Brilliance.
[On a side note, I don't think the unbelievability of this whole facade has anything to do with Katie Holmes. It's not less believable because its her. I kinda feel bad for her - it seems like he's using her for some icky publicity stunt to a) get promotion for his movie, and b) prove to the world that he's straight.....which I don't buy.)]

Magic - I hardly believe she's unaware of any of this - and she has a movie coming out, too.
Oh, she's obviously aware of it, AND getting a major push for her movie and career as well. It's just that I doubt it was HER idea.:) I don't know, something about Cruise makes me doubt his every word and action.
Hopefully they'll get along after the summer movie publicity tour - isn't she rumored to be in MI-3?
I thought that was Lindsay Lohan?
Katie Holmes cruises into MI3?

Tom Cruise's new girlfriend Katie Holmes may be his leading lady in the third installment of Mission Impossible franchise says The New York Post Insiders. Scarlett Johansson was previously attached to an earlier script version which never reached full development. This week Lindsay Lohan, who's starting to look way too skinny if you ask me, said she was very interested on grabbing the part. Shooting is scheduled to begin shortly. We'll keep you updated.
Yep, that clears it up. Cruise opposite Lohan? Yeah. Thats weird. And Lindsey's recent weight loss is supposedly due to her "training" for a part she wants...
If you look at articles now about Katie Holmes it's always "Tom Cruise's new girlfriend Katie Holmes" .....
It's like she doesn't even have her own career anymore
Frankly, this whole thing sort of spooks me. Is it just me, or does Tom cruise seem really erm..controling of her?
Once upon a time, wasn't Nicole Kidman mainly "Tom Cruise's wife.
" And I don't remember ANY of Penelope Cruz's movies... Katie is joining some good company.
Another thing, even if it IS Tom Cruise, it would kinda spook me if, after a meeting, I get whisked off in a jet plane for a sushi date. And then a trip to Rome.
..........that isn't romance..that's why America has restraining orders...
He is a creepy, creepy little man.
For some reason, that made me giggle weirdly like crazy, MagicToDo
I think Katie Holmes should date.......
::eenie meenie miney mo, catch a tiger by the toe::
Brad Pitt
And for Tom?
::my mother says to pick the very best one and you are it::

God, I would love to know what Nicole Kidman thinks of all this. "I have NEVER felt like this, NEVER" he said on Oprah. And referring to Katie as "his woman" over and over, gag....
He's also very insistent that "his woman" whoever she may be, becomes involved in Scientology and I think most of them eventually revolt from that constraint if not from him.
I really don't know why this publicity stunt is necessary though. He spent more than half an hour on Oprah talking about Katie (I'll admit, I was fascinated, I couldn't believe it, I couldn't turn it of) and then just a little bit on the "blockbuster" "War of the Worlds". Oprah hyped it as THE most anticipated movie this year. Uhhhh...sorry, that was Star Wars, whether you anticipated it or not. Anyway, Tom coulda spent a whole lot more time on the movie without that silliness. Maybe the less said the better? What is one to think?

Access Hollywood is spending a full half-hour on him. What a pompous, self-important, sch*mck!!
I can't believe I find myself quoting Margaret Thatcher, but she once said
"Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't."
If you have to scream to the world you're happy over and over, then you probably aren't.
The man just makes me squirm- and not in the good way.
I've been fairly indifferent to Tom Cruise up until now, but lately I've had the urge to strangle him.
Nobody believes it because he's not that good an actor.
heh exactly

Tina Brown's article is terrific. One reason I keep reading about why the press isn't printing these reports and interviews without comment is that he no longer has the powerful PR firm of PMK representing him. His sister is now his publicity person. It also seems like she is urging him to speak more about Scientology and then he opens his mouth and makes asinine comments like Brooke Shields should have taken vitamins for post partum despression. Maybe this is the beginning of the end of his popularity. I think it's good for him and the moviegoing public.
Did anybody catch last nights "Access Hollywood"?
The entire half hour was devoted to interviewing Tom about his beliefs. It was disturbing, really, that a television show (even as useless a show as Access Hollywood) would cater to an actor like that! He spouted off about how he invites all his producers to come to the Scientology House in LA to see what he's all about if they "want to work with him".
He also went into more detail about his beliefs around the evils of psychiatry and medicines they "push" onto people. I didn't watch all of it, though. I turned the channel after he started talking about Brooke Shield's mistakes in using Paxil to treat her post partum depression. Once he started saying that all woman have this problem after birthing and it's only a vitamin deficiency, I left.
