Believe me, it sickens us, too. It's tough only being able to spend 3 months out of every year together. After a couple of years, we have somewhat gotten used to it, but it looks like Spain may be legalizing gay marriage as early as Feb 2005, so I might be eating paella in the near future....

Marc S are you a fan of "West Wing"? Because the prez Josiah Bartlett had the almos same argument with a "Dr. Laura" esque character. Only his ending was " I am the President of the United States, and when I enter a room nobody sits!"

>> The bible and the christian community teach that homosexuality is a sin. (although how they handle this varies) I personally, will never bend on that issue

Funny, as has been noted in other posts, how I imagine other sins get overlooked within that world view.

For example, in outlining the various rules and regulations that go into managing a really swell temple, Paul points out that women "during that time of the month" are strictly forbidden from entering such holy ground. If they do manage to sneak in when no one's looking, the place is to be thoroughly cleansed. Further to that, a woman's husband is NOT to touch her "during that time of the month", lest he too become "tainted and uncleansed". The Bible is riddled with such fascinating things that the Good Hardcore Christian Community doesn't seem to think warrants as much attention as one little law out of the other 637 in Leviticus.

That, I warrant, speaks volumes about their real priorities.

EXACTLY! Why make such a big deal over something that is barely mentioned in the Bible? Jesus never uttered a word about it.

The religious right uses fear to increase its funds. They did this with communism. Then, when the Cold War ended, the "threat" of homosexuality became the focus. Let's not forget the widespread Satanism of the 80s, the occult, and rock music. Now, terrorism is at the forefront of the fear.

I highly recommend STRANGER AT THE GATES by Mel White. The audiotape of the book is of himself telling his story with a foreword by his ex-wife. It's a beautiful, heartwrenching, inspiring story, as well as an expose of the religious right's practice of fear.

jsut a clue yo-YOU're the newbie here-we already have sides-and its not a wonderful idea to get on the bad side of people around here. and when you are condescending like that-it doesnt get you on anybody's A list-so since you're new here-why dont you not try to turn the board against you?

Awww, thanks Marc! Wonderful post. (BTW, I never got the chance to thank you and to tell you how much I love Hairspray. So - I love Hairspray! And the cast recording CD is like an hour-long orgasm. Josh Logan).

Oh yes, and I'm a Canadian, and looking for a cute American to enslave me!

Personally, I'm really tired of (and not really convinced when) people use the Bible to defend their beliefs. I am not and never have been a Christian; I was born into a culturally Buddhist family. I have only a passing knowledge of the Bible, and I'm quite offended when others use it as the Be-All and End-All of the Universe, because it's never reflected my beliefs. So talk about shoving someone else's lifestyle in one's face! I don't like being told that kissing boys is wrong by a faith I've never even subscribed to.

Ah, but, Blue Wizard, being a Buddhist is as bad as being gay. Don't let any Christian tell you otherwise (well, by Christian, I mean the kind who love to spout off everything that is wrong except spending all your time bowing and praying to Joseph Smith or Mohammed or Mary or whatever).
I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian family...it's amazing what is kindly ignored (right down to not eating shellfish) but watch out for those gays...they turn people, you know.

Oh, I'm not Buddhist. My family is culturally Buddhist. Which really means a whole mesh of Taoist/Buddhist/Confucius/just plain old superstition. Josh Logan

Question: what's the fundamentalist Christian opinion of Christina Aguilera, or European fashion? Just curious.

Being a Buddhist is as bad as being gay in the eyes of Christian fundentalists? If that's true, where does a gay, Eastern new age and Wiccan type who grew up around the practice of Santaria fit in?

Culturally schmulturally. It still means you're going to hell. Josh Logan

For the record, both Xtina and eurofashion will make you gay. That's the stance. Josh Logan

Perhaps now would not be the time to tell the originator of this thread about the first-class, all-gay revival of OUR TOWN scheduled for the 2006 season...

OMFG!!!
You people are still talking about this thread???
JEEZ, people, I told you earlier that I started this because I was bored and waiting for the 4th festivities to begin.

I'm shocked that some of you have dissected my words like a scientist trying to split an atom!! or like a lawyer looking over the Constitution preparing for trial with the US Supreme Court!!

Someone said I must be someone who changed my name because I've been around the boards before. GET OVER YOURSELF, YOU SHERLOCK HOLMES WANNA BE! I like Broadway and have known about this site, so WHILE I WAS BORED, I came here to read some of the posts, and then decided I'd start one.

Another moron said I'm the new guy here, so I better not make any enemies, or some crap like that. I don't give a sh#t what you people think of what I've written here.

You know, I got home a little early and fired up the computer to check email and I thought, "I guess I'll go see how many other threads have finally pushed mine so far down, it's not even listed. I was shocked to see you all spewing crap SO FAR off the original subject, like equating Christianity with Communism and the Biblical Laws of Leviticus, among other things.

Some of you made comments directly to me in your posts, I guess expecting me to keep posting. No, I haven't, until now. Know why??

I HAVE A LIFE AND BY THE LOOK OF THINGS, MOST OF YOU HERE THAT KEEP POSTING, DON'T HAVE ONE.

Believe me when I say this. I will not post here again, because it's the biggest waste of time. Remember, I started this because I was bored, and some of you have spent so much time with your responses, you've tried to make a Federal Case out of this.

Good Lord, if there's a way to "UNjoin" this board, I'm going to erase the fact that I ever registered.

I will not be back here on this thread or any other here, and even if I say that if you respond to this, my last post, I will not see it because I could not care less what you have to say to me, I'm sure that some idiot out there will do it anyway.

Go OUTSIDE! Walk the dog. Go to a movie. I can't believe that I'VE even wasted this much time writing this, but I think that someone has to tell you all these things.

But once again, i never said i believed anybody should follow the value i have for myself. Thank you.

Wow, Why is Broadway so gay.... hmm I'm just going to have to jump in with what is quite possibly my all time favorite quote.

"If it wasn't for Jews, fags, and gypsies, there would be no theater."---Mel Brooks, "To Be or Not To Be"

yup, that just about sums it up.
