Posted: 8/18/04 at 11:56amI didn't get into it until it was a few seasons along - I only like Karen and Jack. And Grace's mother, of course - a little Debbie Reynolds can't hurt!!! But the writing is generally pretty hysterical.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 11:58ami like the show but frankly find it overrated - there is no way that it deserves an emmy nod for "best comedy." the writing is nowhere as smart as many other overlooked shows. in fact, while i still enjoy the show enough to watch, the jokes are very sophomoric and the characters more and more overdrawn caricatures of their former selves.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 11:58amThe writing has kinda weakened over the seasons. But Karen Walker is, hands down, one of the most well-written characters in the history of television.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 11:58amI think the one with Graces water bra is hysterical! And also, the one where Grace gets Will a dog. Karen makes me pee my pants. Its a genuinely funny show.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:01pmKaren is not only well-written, but very few people could play it. Megan Mullally is genius in that role.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:01pmGenerally hysterical, yes. I used to say that I would just like the show to be called Jack & Karen. Well, this season when Messing left that's exactly what we got. And it didn't work too well. It just proves that for this show, each character is a vital ingredient to the formula that makes it a success.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:01pmUnderrated??? Four Emmys and 25 various other awards as well as being a critical success and a ratings hit! The show is about to begin its seventh season. How is it possibly "underrated"???

Like everyone, I agree that the show has its flaws- but I LOVE it so much and I get some good laughs out in every episode.
And I am EXACTLY like Grace was in the first seasons of the show. It's ridiculous.

Underrated wasnt the right word.
I meant people dont really watch it that much and its not like a hugely popular show like Friends was *moment of silence*. But, the critics love it. I have a feeling Season 7 is gonna be hysterical! I can only hope.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:07pmFriends. Now there's a show where the writing declined every season. The last few seasons had maybe one or two laughs an episode. That show was way too overrated.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:08pmNot necessarily true. Season 8 (Rachel's pregnancy) was hands down, the most well written season the series ever saw.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:08pmI always called it the Jack and Karen Show. Debra Messing is great but Eric McCormack as Will is generally very underserved by the material. And the show itself started to implode midway through season 4 and I lost interest. I caught an epiosde of season 6 when I was in LA last year and thought it was the worst thing I have ever seen. Shame.

I've watched tons of Friends episodes- and I laughed in TWO, TWO of them. Some couldn't even budge a giggle out of me.
And the storyline isn't exactly fantastic, IMO, so it had to be the comedy, which fell short.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:09pmSeason 8, wasn't that the season that ended with Rachel giving birth, or was that season 9?
#22re: Will & Grace
Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:10pmI'll give you that, Matt. I guess it is the middle seasons that really were terrible. And the last season was not funny at all. All the episodes were just "sentimental" without any real comedy.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:12pmThe last season was absolutely deathly except for the episode with Christina Applegate as Rachel's sister, which made me pee myself laughing. A lot.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:13pmDebra Messing does absolutely nothing for me. Overrated wide-eyed mugger.
