To keep or not to keep?
Many Republican governors who opposed the stimulus are now touting the benefits their states will see. Likewise, Republican congresspersons are doing the same for their districts. Except for Jindal, potential 2012 presidential candidate who will be giving the response to Obama's speech next week. He has been saying that he MIGHT not take the money.
link shortened for papa
If he doesn't want it, I'll take it. My health insurance is due.
he's got plenty of political cover for what he's doing. he's not saying, we're not going to accept any of this money on principle -like some republicans who are happy to cut off their noses to spite their faces - he's saying that they are going to look at what the conditions are that come with the money. they are going to look at each program and determine one by one if they want to accept them. seems like a fairly nuanced approach.

This really ISN'T unethical to do. They and their states will be paying for the stimulus - why shouldn't they see the benefits of it?
Don't get me wrong, though I probably disagree with Jindal on every social issue, I have far more respect for him than I do for blowhards like Sanford in SC. I really do think it's going to be interesting to see how he handles this, and how his actions are portrayed as being based on principals or politics.
the devil is in the details, mb. if he says, "we're not taking money for project a becuase it will require us to commit resources we just don't have" he'll be ok. if he says, "we're not taking money for project b because it would require us to allow codoms to be distributed to pre-schoolers along with pornographic magazines and lube" it's a bit more sticky.
and fix that long ass link, mr. uses long links to compensate for something.

Gosh I hope he says no. There is nothing better for this country than Republicans to stand on the sidelines hoping the economy doesn't improve.
"seems like a fairly nuanced approach."
GM has a large production plant in Shreveport that makes the Hummer and some other crap. Shreveport is also a trucking & rail hub that serves that plant. Let's see how nuanced Jindal's gon be on the GM bailout. GM's trying to put as much space as it can between itself and the other two peas on that pod.
According to the latest reports, the fate of the Shreveport plant hangs in the balance.
Shreveport auto plant in play
what does he have to do with the gm bailout? nothing. he has no influence with gm becuase their deal is lot bigger than just shreveport and it's not part of the porkulus stimulati.
two separate issues, jav.
Papa,
There's something duplicitous about scoffing at a stimulus plan that would directly benefit individuals within your state after taking federal handouts in form of disaster relief and doing the bidding of a plant within your state that would be a beneficiary of automaker payola.
I don't want to put words in Jindal's mouth but am I to infer that no economic stimulus plan is of any value unless it's authored and managed by his side of the aisle? I mean those individuals and businesses who received bonuses from the last round of tax cuts approved by you-know-who didn't exactly re-invest the money in the "war effort". Wars have to be funded you know.
Anyhow, who cares what I think. Peep the somewhat dated article linked below and lemme know if you still believe that Jindal's current 2012 party nomination posturing could withstand the torrent of outrage that would ensue if he let the Shreveport plant fade to black. He vowed to fight for that plant.
His constituency doesn't care which trough he sticks his hand into as long as he doesn't come back empty-handed. Jobs trump ideology bro!
