Thats great.
So, is this Gaines Hall person an expatriate, or what? Never heard of him...
Gaines was born in Alabama in 1967, where his dance abilities soon made themselves evident in his mother’s dance school. He found his singing voice in the church choir, where he sang weekly. After completing high school as salutatorian of his class, he moved to Washington DC where he attended American University. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree, major in theater and minor in dance, in 1990. While in DC, he worked parallel to his studies all over the entire DC metropolian area as dance instructor, choreographer, and performer.
He then toured nationally in three different national tours throughout the US and Canada before moving to New York City. He was only there a short time before he was cast in the European tour of the Broadway musical “42nd Street,” which took him to Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. While with the show in Berlin, he auditioned for the nationally-renowned Theater des Westens—Theater of the West. He was hired on the spot for their up-coming musical “UFA-Revue,” which was based on the Nazi propoganda films leading up to and during World War II. He thought he’d stay for the three-month run and then return to the States, but fate, his increasing love of Europe- and the management of the theater- had other things in store.
His tenure there became no less than four years, in which he performed in such shows as “My Fair Lady,” “Anything Goes,” “La Cage aux Folles,” and “Hello, Dolly.” In the last two productions, his german was finally good enough to test the waters in smaller roles, resulting in his first steps out of the ensemble. His biggest break came when he was cast as understudy to the leading role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s german production of “Sunset Boulevard” outside of Frankfurt. After the end of his first contract there, he returned to Berlin for his final engagement at Theater des Westens, a sixties review entitled “Let’s Pop!” “Sunset” soon came calling again, though, where he returned, this time as alternating leading man. He subsequently took over the role, becoming the last Joe Gillis in an original “Sunset” production in the world at that time.
It was then time to pack the tour-bags again, as he toured throughout Germany and Switzerland as the Beast in an original german production of “Beauty and the Beast.” This was to be a turning point in his professional life, as it was his first time working with director Mathias Davids and Choreographer Melissa King, leading to the next phase of his career.
With team Davids/ King he has performed throughout Germany in various opera houses in leading roles in the musicals “The Life” from Cy Coleman, “Chess” from the male-composer team once of ABBA, and Gershwin’s “Crazy for You.” This last production has been so celebrated and successful that it continues to be bought and produced by different theaters in Germany and Austria. Other shows with other sought-after director/choreographer teams have included Bernstein’s “On the Town,” Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes,” and—one of Gaines’ personal and artistic favorites—“Kiss of the Spiderwoman” from Kander and Ebb of “Chicago” and “Cabaret” fame.
In the last few years, in between the big shows, Gaines has managed to create and produce four entirely different one-man shows, which are regularly booked in theaters and clubs around the country. He has made three CD’s, performs regularly in galas and private functions, and also sings recurringly with a Frankfurt big-band. His Solo-Shows are all described on his web-site, along with photographs and press-quotes, and his performing dates are also regularly up-dated.
It’s not ALL work, however. Gaines now resides in the beautiful city of Wiesbaden, just outside of Frankfurt. Wiesbaden is the gateway to the famed wine producing region in the Rhein Valley—or Rheingau—where he regularly enjoys walks along the Rhein River, through the vinyards of Riesling grapes, and of course stopping in to one of the many family owned and operated restaurants to savour the cuisine and wines of the region! He enjoys reading quietly on his balcony in the summer, and often has cocktail amd dinner parties based on menus and themes from his beloved birthplace, the American South!
I just typed that all by myself of course!

I don't like this thread today in some ways...
By "gay attitude" do you mean he is obviiously effeminate with a quick retort, or do you just mean he's bitchy and hard to work with?

Having just read his cv on his website, I think I've seen him in "My Fair Lady" 1994 in the TdW Berlin.
