I have one. Your desktop exists in two dimensions, a regular desktop like previous versions of Windows and a new desktop like the one you see on TV with apps. You can easily flip between the two desktops with just a click.
At first I liked the novelty of it. But many of the apps are too limited or don't quite work right. They seem to be designed more for tablets and phones and smaller things you use in a more simplistic way when you're on the go.
For example, the mail app is a useless nightmare. But fortunately, you can just click to the old desktop and access your mail from there in the normal way, through Outlook or the web or whatever.
You also access your pics, vids and music through an app. Problem is if you have porn, it's just displayed there with the rest of your stuff. No way to put it in a folder called Armenian Folk Dances that people won't look at. So when you go to show your niece a pic of the cookies you made, there's giant thumbnails of your porn right alongside it....at least that's what my friend who has porn told me.
Bottom line, this is intended to make all your devices run the same, phones, tabs, desktops, etc. But it doesn't really suit a desktop. I found myself clicking over to the old desktop more and more until that's just where I stay now. I haven't been to the new one in weeks. So it's kinda pointless to have it. Though it's becoming harder and harder to find computers without Windows 8 already built in.
