Harry Potter is clearly a kid's movie. I am sure this one will be filled with action and fantasy violence, but can't imagine that it will be inappropriate for school age kids.
What gets me is parents dragging kids to see wildly inappropriate films because tickets are cheaper than a baby sitter. I will never forget the terrified shrieks of a pre-schooler subjected to Starship Troopers. (Rated R)

ha ha ha! That makes me laugh a little... Starship Troopers is one of those movies I can honestly say that I love every minute of.
But back on topic: I hope this is an indication that they're stepping it up a bit for this movie. I'm sorry, but I thought HP3 sucked ass. They cut too much of the story to squeeze it into the corporate-mandated 90 minutes.

I'll see your "pre-schooler at Starship Troopers" and raise you a 6-year-old at Seven. Luckily she didn't seem to be actually watching the movie, just walking up and down the aisles hitting the top of everyone's seat.
Anyway GoF looks awesome. I loved where Cuaron took the series with PoA and this looks like it continues that darker tone.

Ew! Someone took a six-year old to Seven!!! I could barely handle that movie and I was in my late teens when I saw it!
Back on topic, though, I'm not surprised at the PG-13 rating. The books have gotten much darker as Harry grows up and I think that's a perfectly natural thing. Harry Potter is a tortured soul with a tortured past. Torture rarely warrants a G rating.

Posted: 9/21/05 at 1:39pmI KNEW that was you-know-who in that last shot....I rewound that one a couple times. Anyway, I can't wait. It's my favorite book of the series so far, and this'll be my first time having read HP before seeing the movie.

Harry Potter 3 cut too much of the story in order to squeeze it in to the corporate mandated 90 minutes? Is this the same film that clocks in at 2 hours and 21 minutes? Just asking.
And it's interesting that you mention Starship Troopers. On the commentary on the special edition DVD, Verhoeven notes that in order to get a PG-13 rating, it would have required them cutting less than a minute of footage.
