On June 29 and 30 at 6:00 PM in the Lerner Black Box Theater at Columbia University there will be a workshop production of a new musical play, Definition of a Housewife, by Joshua Morgan and Jeffery Self. In an attempt to receive audience feedback, Jeffery and I would like to invite a few of some of the general theatre audience members to watch the show and help us in taking the show to the next level. We have a lot of faith in the piece and would love to be able to share it with more than the invited audience we have thus far. If interested please send me a message or e-mail me at OpenQuivers@aol.com with "Definition of a Housewife" as the subject and we'll make sure to leave room on the list.
Thank you,
Joshua
*Below is a synopsis for those interested;
Definition of a Housewife is the story of Marci Gordon, a young housewife living in a small town in Illinois during the early 1960's. Throughout the show, a chorus of four women who make up the inner workings of Marci’s mind, take us through her life and the people who affect her the most: Tom, Marci’s abusive husband; Sarah, the baby-sitter who offers a window to the world beyond Marci’s cul-de-sac prison; her Mother and Father, the people who passed on this grim tradition of being a housewife, locking Marci into the role for life. Through the course of one morning, and a series of flashbacks, we see Marci’s struggle to dream, to get out. The demons of the past, the chorus, haunt Marci as she tends to her daily chores ... forcing secrets and memories to arise, we see the events that have led up to this moment, where Marci must finally decide to get out or stay. As Marci’s mother states: “Being a housewife isn't something we choose, it’s what we are.”
