Today! September 28th 2025.

A good moment to remember that we are all Human. We are all Equal. We are all Welcome.

For me the best and easiest way to solve the illegal immigration problem is to MAKE IT LEGAL. The way it used to be. The way probably most of us came to be American in the first place. Land of the free, American dream, huddled masses etc. Once upon a time, there was zero bureaucracy. That only changed in the 20th century. Let's go back to the old way.

Failing that, the very least we can do whilst discussing illegal immigration is to remember that the reason these people are "illegal" is because the laws have been tightened and narrowed so much that this is the only choice for most.Too many people say "immigrants are welcome, but only if they come in LEGALLY", which ignores the fact that Trump is trying to crush all forms of entry with his big orange foot. Even highly-skilled workers are no longer welcome. Republicans have done this NOT for safety reasons, but due to fear that all the new American citizens will vote Democrat. That's all it really comes down to.

I don't completely agree with that. I've done a lot (years) of warehouse work. If you want to experience companionship with migrants/immigrants, work in a warehouse.

(FYI, for those who may not know, migrants come to the US, but do not plan to stay. Their intent is to return to their homeland someday. Immigrants come to the US with the intent of staying in the US. In many cases, they are fleeing some form of harassment or persecution.)

All of the migrants I've worked with have been predominantly Mexican. Some were migrants/immigrants from Central and South America, but all could be categorized as "Hispanic". They've come to the US to make money to either send home to families they've left behind, or to save enough to one day return to Mexico to retire. Another reason some were in the US was to get an education, with plans to return home after graduation.

At one of the warehouses  where I worked, all EEs needed to be bilingual in Spanish. Spanish was the predominant language spoken on the floor, and for all company/EE meetings. English was the secondary language for the few of us who were US citizens.

The majority of those I worked with had no interest/need to learn English, nor to become a US citizen, as their goal was to return to Mexico. Personally, I never had a problem with that, although there were many times I felt like I was the non-citizen, in my own country.

That could be frustrating, but the men and women I worked with were incredibly warm friends/co-workers. Their work ethic was exemplary, and I looked forward to their companionship, and their comradery every single day I was there.

In contrast to your statement, of the Hispanics I worked with, the majority were Illegal by choice. It was never their plan to become a US citizen.

If they were illegal by choice, what were the other options available to them?

Come legally? Stay at home? Go somewhere else?

With illegal migrants being SO essential to John’s workplace, and MANY others too… wouldn't it make more sense for Trump to make them legal?

I can't speak to that.

I only know what they told me about what they wanted for themselves, and why they came to the US. I listened to many stories about what it cost to enter the country via "coyote". I also heard one woman's experience with swimming the Rio Grande.

I did have conversations with some regarding advantages to learning English (particularly should they ever find themselves in a courtroom situation, as some had).

I was never concerned with trying to persuade anyone to become a citizen, or to comment regarding their legal status. Keep in mind, too that this was the beginning of Trump's first term in office. The most pressing conversations were about "the wall".

At the warehouse where I worked with Hispanics, management was concerned with money/productivity. That's all.

We worked 12 hrs/day, 4days/week, and 12 hrs/day, 6 days/week during the Christmas season from Thanksgiving through the New Year. There were also times when overtime was offered (12 hr/5 day weeks outside of the Christmas season).

My belief is that Trump is never concerned with rational, or reasonable behavior like "making sense". He is singularly driven by his own ego, money and power. He's a dictator. [full stop]

If you can't speak to it, I’m unsure what you meant by "they were illegal by choice". Who swims their way in to the US by choice?

Were these people on the same payscale as yourself, John? Did you regard them as your equal?

Anyway, I’ll take this chance to THANK them for their contribution to society.

N.B. I don't mean to be intrusive, and these are just honest questions without any implied tone or argument.
