"Nick Cage looks a bit silly."
you could have ended the sentence right there.

I would have cast unknowns in the film. No one is going to see that movie just becuase Nicholas Cage is in it. It already comes with it's audience. I can't explain why, but Nick cage being in it makes it insulting.

I feel like it has less to do with the fact that Cage is a famous actor, and more to do with how ridiculous he is :0)

I was gonna say it looks kind of creepy. Much more than United 93.

It looks pretty generic to me. And Cage looks malnutritioned.

I think this actually looks really great. It doesn't like he Oliver Stoned it too much. It looks like a really beautiful well-crafted film. I guess time will tell.

Judging from the trailer, Cage is playing a character rather than playing a man. It's inappropriate and it detracts from the honesty of someone like Maggie Gyllenhaal. Do do like that guy from CRASH, though.

I totally agree, JerseyGirl, I would have MUCH prefered that they cast talented unknowns.
As much as the logical part of my brain thinks that this movie is probably going to be overwrought and manipulative, the trailer made me teary-eyed.

Ugh!
I love the end of the trailer..."a true story of courage and survival" Has Oliver Stone ever done anything truthful in his entire career?
I hate the fact that this tragedy has now become nothing but fodder for cheap entertainment created to be fed to the masses. It looks like nothing more than a trailer for a remake of the Towering Inferno.
No thanks, I'll pass on this.

I think this would be harder to watch than United 93. I have trouble listening to Flight 93 by Melissa Etheridge. Annoying actors aside, the scenery is just too believable.

I haven't seen United 93 yet, but this looks... tacky, glorified, and over-dramatized. It's not what we need, at all. Even in light of that, though, I agree with JerseyGirl that watching it told from this angle might be more difficult to watch.
On another note, is that Maggie Gyllenhaal, or am I crazy?
Edit -- nevermind, I'm not crazy. At least on that note.
Nicholas Cage looks ridiculous; he looks like he's trying *far* too hard to be some sort of super hero. Not at *all* to disparage the heroic nature of what this is based on, but he's coming across as awfully cheesy. I also think having big stars in a movie like this is going to take people out a bit. Not the right choice, IMO.

Nope, it's her. What happened to little indie film Maggie?? And Maria Bello. They shouldn't have cast actors I like.

Justaguy - I couldn't agree anymore.
And I thing that it is way too early for these films. It's just innapropriate.

The trailer will apparently be appearing in theaters beginning this coming weekend with the release of The Da Vinci Code. The producers are making some sort of effort to 'warn' people about it.

No, I mean to warn them that they're going to be seeing some upsetting imagery, since it's hard for a lot of people to watch. It's unfair to show this if people are completely unsuspecting and don't know it's going to be there.

God, that looks so cheesy and manipulative. The "Pearl Harbor" of 9/11 movies...
But then again, I absolutely hated the trailer for United 93, saying the same thing and that ended up being one of the best films of this very young year.

Looks like Oliver Stone has gone soft. Talk about schmaltzy! At least that's the way the trailer makes it look. And I agree that casting Cage was a mistake. This may be the first Oliver Stone film that I pass on.
