There might always be the word or literature, but paper books? No way. It's not a question of if, but when.

The downfall will come rapidly when the "box" that contains electronic books becomes as pleasant as a book itself. At this point, the Kindle and the Sony Ebook Reader are cool electronic toys but not something the majority of readers want to take into bed or on the beach or hold on public transportation.

Once the technology advances to the point where electronic reading devices are as user-friendly as an iPod, people will download (and pirate) books the way they now do music.

And that will be the end of bookstores.
