I've just read in one of these NY papers that the head of Miramax, H. Weinstein, stated that during Christmas through New Years, he will eliminate the "paid holiday vacation" for his employees.
We all know that that week in particular is celebrated by Christians. To me it sounds as if he's saying "You want to celebrate your holiday, don't expect to get paid for not showing up."
Is he implying that his company will financially suffer if his employees are off celebrating their holiday? One week at that? What is wrong with him?
I'm just curious, do you any of you see this as a bad thing? Needless to say, his holiday ends before Christmas begins.
"stated that during Christmas through New Years, he will eliminate the "paid holiday vacation" for his employees."
Did the employees always enjoy a paid vacation that week?
If they got paid previously for the holiday week and they are now being given the option to stay home without pay, if they choose, I'd say that's the way everyone else does it. Christmas and New Year's are legal holidays and I am sure they will be paid accordingly.

hope,
why don't you post the link to that article? let's see what it really says before you drum up some ridiculous dialogue pitting jewish people against christians. let's say miramax has changed their vacation policy....i'm sure it was done for business reasons. reports that miramax has cut staff and taken steps to reduce costs are not new. don't be anti-semitic.

I wasn't trying to be anti-semetic. I just thought it would be unfair for people to choose b/w their job and their holiday. Why start the name calling?
maybe you weren't trying, but you were to me. where's the article? where did you read it?

It's his right to decide if he wants to pay his employees for holidays. However, he might want to look at the recent presidential election to see the effect Christians have on policy.

I think it was in yesterday's Post.
Bongoboy, I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone. I'm not a person to discrimanate or hate. It was just a topic of conversation. Things can get misconstrued.
I believe we should all come together, now more than ever. But we shouldn't let differences part us. Sadly, in life many people end up suffering for the wrong reasons.

It's not a your-holiday my-holiday thing. It's a cost-cutting measure. Welcome to the modern business world. Chanukah's not even an important holiday; it barely counts compared to the High Holy Days and Passover.
oh please, hope, your post suggests weinstein is taking christmas away from his employees for religious reasons. this is not how most people "come together". Updated On: 11/13/04 at 10:14 PM

"Needless to say, his holiday ends before Christmas begins."
And yet, needless though you may have thought it was to say, you said it anyway. Believe me, you can say you're not "anti-semetic," but needless to say it sure as hell reads that way.
I don't quite understand the argument. He probably doesn't pay his employees either for taking days off for Passover. (If he did, then I could see why there'd be a problem.) I know I wouldn't get paid if I took a day off to celebrate Chinese New Year.
I'm surprised he was paying his employees to take a week off in the first place.

Oh, I bet he does pay the Passover/Hannukah crowd very well for taking those holidays off. Needless to say, you know how those people are with money, needless to say.

Besides, Chanukah, like every other Jewish holiday, falls on a different day each year. Guess when it falls next year? Oh, that's right- December 25th. Oops. There's goes that conspiracy theory.

Well, you can bet which tribe will get their holiday off. Needless to say, with pay.

actually, my comment was a joke and probably had less to do with namo's than with my own obsession with natalie merchant.

Sometimes pop culture references just pass me buy. I stopped listening to the radio 2 years ago and I barely watch TV.
well, it's a nether world then as a vast majority of my pop culture references date to the early 90's.
I was never paid for Yom Kippur and my boss was a member of the tribe. I get the joke btw.
my boss is half jewish and half presby. i get no holidays off and feel guilty for even thinking about it.

My school doesn't even give off for national holidays. It's a bit much to expect a break on the High Holy Days, I guess.
