With the arrest and interrogation of the Times Square bomber, the issues of Miranda, rights, citizenship, etc, have arisen once again. Knuckleheads like McCain, Lieberman, and King (GOP Congressman from NY) have taken this opportunity for grandstanding, making ridiculous claims and accusations. Can we make it a prerequisite that our legislators have at least a passing acquaintance with our Constitution? It's not that long, and it's worded very carefully, using the words 'person' and 'citizen' very specifically. I'll give them a clue: EVERYONE has Miranda rights. EVERYONE has most of the rights in the Constitution. EVERYONE is entitled to due process. EVERYONE includes citizens and non-citizens.
Read it, it's short

You've mistaken Lieberman, McCain et al for people who give a sh*t about the Constitution, except as a tool to get what they want for themselves.

Perhaps before accusing others, you should study the Constitution yourself. Democrats have for many years gone outside the bounds of the Constitution and disregarded specific things that it says.

I have read the Constitution, and in instances where Dems, or anyone else (like our current SCOTUS), wish to disregard it, I oppose them. Case in point: when many Dems (including Obama) supported warrantless wiretaps, I and many other Obama supporters opposed them.

It isn't exactly much of a defense of the GOP to be saying that Dems do it, too.
Goth, it is nice to know that you use the Democrats as the benchmark of all things constitutional.
I guess if there was a bridge, just so long as one person jumped, the rest are fine to follow.

I just heard some right winger ranting and "Why was he given his Miranda rights?" after being arrested for the bombing attempt. I can't decide if he meant why he was "Read" his Miranda rights or is under the misapprehension that people are not imbued with certain inalienable rights...either way, he seemed quite unclear on the concept.

"Inalienable rights"? That is the dumbest expression I've ever heard? Where did you get that? Is that a term for somebody like Fieval Shazam who was once an alien and then became an American citizen? That makes him an "inalien"? Why should an American citizen who wasn't born here have special rights?
Gah.

Not following you here, Goth. You're saying that madbrian needs to study the Constitution himself, becausehe has disregarded it in the past? Can you give us specific examples of madbrian's handiwork in this regard?
Thanks.
If anyone wants witnesses to my total disregard for the Constitution, you can speak to my three daughters. Our home is not a democracy.
As long as you didn't have the audacity to name one of them Miranda . . .

Miranda Rights -- apparently the right to treat your delightful husband like crap and then wonder why he cheats.
Keith summed it up perfect last night. I could not have said it better myself!

I read that even Glenn Beck disagreed with McCain!
Mrs. Brd for snicks watched the Glen Beck show in which he has his audience to ask him questions! It might be the creepiest think I have ever seen!
