Is there a (dc) option, for "don't care"?
^^^
You obviously care enough to post that.
Methinks you try too hard to be perverse, pugnacious.
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/15/03
Nope, SM, just stating the facts. Nothing "perverse, pugnacious" about a lack of interest in the Oscars.
Best Picture:
Will- Leaning toward The Hurt Locker
Should: The Hurt Locker
Dark Horse: Up
Best Director:
Will- Kathryn Bigelow or James Cameron
Should: Bigelow
Dark Horse: It's really just Bigelow vs. Cameron that is getting people talking.
Best Actress:
Will: Sandra Bullock
Should: I only saw two performances of the nominees and neither made me think Oscar.
Dark Horse: Gabourey Sidibe or Carey Mulligan. One of the younguns. Gabby seems all kinds of fun judging by interviews (polar opposite of character) so I am pulling for her.
Best Actor:
Will and (probably) Should: Jeff Bridges
Dark Horse: Jeremy Renner has the Indy community in his corner and he was that good in The Hurt Locker.
Best Supporting Actress:
Will and Should: Mo'Nique
Dark Horse: There would have to be a fierce backlash against Mo'Nique for this to be possible.
Best Supporting Actor:
Will, Should, hold the Dark Horses: Christoph Waltz
Best Adapted Screenplay
Will: Reitman and Turner for Up In The Air since it will be the film's only Oscar that night in all likelihood.
Should: Blomkamp and Tatchell for District 9, let's celebrate the first-time filmmakers!
Dark Horse: In The Loop and its four screenwriters may be one of those films that nobody except critics saw that will get honored by the Academy.
Best Original Screenplay:
Will: Tarantino
Should: Mark Boal for The Hurt Locker. I have heard people say there is no screenplay. It may not be a message-film but it is pretty basic and simple to understand. I write this loving Inglorious Basterds and its screenplay despite the many pitfalls of every Tarantino film.
Dark Horse: Up's screenplay. Simple yet so effective.
Animated Feature:
Will, Should, hold off the Dark Horses: Up
Art Direction:
Will, Should, hold off the Dark Horses: Avatar
Cinematography:
Will: Avatar
Should: Inglorious Basterds- If only for just the Cat's Eyes sequence
Dark Horse: The Hurt Locker
Costume Design:
Throwing Darts: Coco Before Chanel- Because I am assuming a biopic on Coco Chanel has beautiful costumes.
Documentary Feature:
Will, Should, hold off the Dark Horses: Food, Inc.
Film Editing:
Will: Avatar
Should: The Hurt Locker
Best Foreign Language Film:
Will and Should: The White Ribbon- Haneke's been waiting a while for this and even though the film is creepy bordering on a typical Haneke case of Hobbesian views on the human condition, it is not even close to how disturbing his other films are.
Dark Horse: The Academy never makes this a sure-thing.
Makeup:
They're giving it to Star Trek to throw the Trekkers a bone. Have seen neither Il Divo or The Young Victoria to judge their chances or if they were worthy.
Original Score:
Will: James Horner (As a viola player all I can say about Horner's scores are: BLEH!)
Should: Fantastic Mr. Fox, such a fun score.
Dark Horse: Hans Zimmer's score is energetic, bellowing, and fits the period. Arguably the best part of Sherlock Holmes.
Original Song:
Not a clue. I assume "Almost There" from The Princess & The Frog will win but Newman's had so many more memorable songs which did not win an Oscar. Plus there is another song from the movie in its competition. I will go with the theme from Crazy Heart since that is board consensus.
Visual Effects:
Should, Will, hold the dark horses: Avatar
Sound Editing: Avatar
Sound Mixing: Avatar

I didn't say your lack of interest was perverse or pugnacious. But your posting about your lack of interest is.

Looks like we disagree. I thought a statement of "no interest" was as valid as any other list of predictions/choices.
Regarding Roscoe's lack of interest on the Oscars despite incessant posting to proclaim said disinterest: "The lady doth protest too much methinks."
And, The Cove is winning Best Documentary. Would love a tie here for it and Food Inc.

Dear darling jerby. My posting on my lack of Oscar interest is hardly "incessant" as it was just one single post, followed by a couple of responses to SM. You should really learn the meaning of some of those big words before you use them.
You must be fun at parties.
My dearest, darling, dainty, delightful Roscoe, it is now 4 posts in this very thread and not the only thread where you have shared your delightful brand of disdain for the Oscars.
But this is coming from the man who must announce over and over again what a horrible film Chicago is. Any and every opportunity.
Incessantly.
Obsessing over the negative in his life is surely a sign of a lack of positive in his life. Sad.
I don't understand why the ones who bitch the most around here have the thinnest skins. They incessantly challenge other people's opinions on what is "good," yet when their own negative opinions and personal attacks are challenged by others, they react with such irate contempt and venom.
There's an old cliche that rings true here: "You can dish it out, but you can't take it."
Word to the wise.
And stop being such a wuss!
Moving on ...
I posted my picks for pics on another thread, but this seems like the more appropriate place:
Best Pic: The Hurt Locker
Best Actor: Bridges
Best Actress: Bullock
Supporting Actor: either Plummer or Waltz
Supporting Actrees: Mo'Nique
Director: Bigelow (which will be a first)
Art Direction: Avatar

Of course. How can I have been so blind! The Oscars are of vast national artistic importance! Once again, Jerby shows the way! Just as he has with Barack Obama and CHICAGO, the greatest film ever made!

Way to take the high road, jerbster. Name-calling with bunnies. Maturity, thy name is jerby!
I return the thread to its proper subject: folks' choices for this year's Oscars. Sorry that others decided to force a threadjack.
Oh lighten up, DARLING.
Oh look at that--Oscar-winner CZJ just walked past me. I'll tell her you say hi and are a huge fan.
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/15/03
No, jerbulicious, at least give her my real message. Tell her that Julianne Moore deserved the Supporting Actress Oscar for THE HOURS.
But you don't care about Oscars!
LOL

This year I don't. That year I did.
