I would be so happy if Michael Giacchino won best score for UP.
And I really would like Meryl to win, but that doesn't look likely, at this point.
But Mr. Bridges' win will be more than adequate compensation!

I've seen all the Best Picture nominees, but I haven't seen every nominated film, so I can't really say who SHOULD win. And while I think Hurt Locker definitely should win Best Picture, Up in the Air remains my favorite film of the year. And I'll feel pretty bad for Sandra Bullock if she wins because she's already getting the Julia Roberts treatment from the blogs and forums. But that's what happens when a romantic comedy actress tries to do anything serious. It's ok for men, but for women, it's a totally different story. I could definitely see Bullock heading in this direction after her noted performance in Crash and I wouldn't be surprised if we see Sarah Jessica Parker's career on a similar trajectory in the next five years or so. No doubt she'll receive as chilly a reception as Roberts and Bullock. Personally, I though Bullock delivered a stunning and memorable performance in The Blind Side, a film I found surprisingly engaging and enjoyable. Streep was excellent, but the role had very limited range. I liked Mulligan, but neither the role nor the film made much of an impact on me (like The Blind Side, I felt it was nominated to more or less fill out the expanded Best Picture category). Honestly, I think Sibide's performance should be considered a more serious contender than Streep's. I haven't seen The Last Station, so I can't comment on it. Did it even run in Chicago?

I just think it's funny that a lot of people compare Sandra Bullock's nomination (and possible win) to Julia Roberts' Oscar. The latter, in my opinion, is one of the worst travesties in Academy history. Ellen Burstyn in Requiem for a Dream gave one of the most haunting performances in recent history. The fact that she lost to "America's Sweetheart" still makes me throw up in my mouth a little.
While I don't think Bullock necessarily deserves to win, she gives the performance of her career and does rather well with the part. Meryl Streep, while always excellent in everything she does, simply didn't get enough to do in Julie & Julia. While she effectively brought Julia Child to life, the character had no depth. Since the movie was so evenly split between the two women, Streep did not get enough time to show what she could do. Were I to base my decision on the kitchen scene where she gets the letter from her sister, I'd probably give it to Streep. Overall, however, I think the award should go to either Gabourey Sidibe or Carey Mulligan. Although they are both new, they did the best work of the year and (in my opinion) walked circles around the other nominees. While I was rooting for Mulligan (Sally Sparrow!) for the longest time, I've recently switched to Sidibe after seeing how different she is from her character. A truly knockout performance.
While I've seen all the Best Picture nominees except Avatar (I'm probably going tomorrow), I will wait to post my predictions until the end of the week when I have seen all the movies for the major categories.

I'm changing one of my predictions, but leaving the rest (posted earlier in this thread) ...
I now think that "Avatar" will win Best Picture.
Oh, and Waltz will win Supporting Actor. I had a tossup between him and Plummer. But Waltz will win.
