I dont live in NYC, so I cant go. It makes me sad. Norn, I want a full report. Yoko's two latest disks are awesome.

re: Yoko Ono in Conversation with Anthony DeCurtis

well, Yoko was interesting but not as interesting as she's been in the past. i think it was the crowd, mostly sunbaked 50+ UES ladies...& the one sitting next to me tried to start a fight! more on that later.

when ive seen Yoko before, its always been about her, very deliberatley NOT talking about john lennon; this moderator brought all conversation *back* to john lennon, which i could tell was frustrating for her, because she wanted to talk about I'M A WITCH, politics & life in general.

She did get to say that she loves making dance music because "i'm the kind of person, when i start dancing, i'll dance ALL NIGHT!"

but finally she gave in & told some sweet stories about john (that he always insisted that he looked "funky" the first time they met. "no", she would tell him; "that was the second time we met, @ claus oldenburg's. the first time we met, @ indica gallery, you were very clean-cut" & he would recoil at the thought of him being 'clean-cut"

she talked about Sean, her own childhood & being an outsider.

the moderator asked her where she gets the strength to BE YOKO & she gave him a look like 'what a silly question' but said "its too much work to try to be somebody else."

i made notes of some other things she said:

"there are only two industries in this world; WAR INDUSTRY and PEACE INDUSTRY. WAR INDUSTRY doesnt need to speak, they are already on the same page. they all want the same thing; money, power, domination. PEACE INDUSTRY is full of idealists, so they are always fighting! they cant agree on anything & nothing gets accomplished because no one will compromise their high ideals. so of couse, WAR INDUSTRY wins."

"i used to be very very snobby about art. i woud say, "you call *that* art?" [makes sneering face] now i say "thank you for being an artist instead of a killer."

ok, now on to the fight!
these two cooked brown leather women came in a few minutes late after the start & their seats were right by me. Yoko wasnt out yet but the moderator was out & speaking. the woman who was about to sit next to me started snarling at some woman in the row behind us "WHAT?!?!?! YA SHOOT A LOOK AT ME & NOW YER LAUGHIN AT ME?!?!?!?" & the other woman talked her down. it was kinda scary. i felt bad for Yoko coz she deserved a hipper crowd, but i get the sense that is the standard for 92 st Y...

although there were a few interesting freaks sprinkled in the audience, including a death-metal gay couple.

OH BUT THE MOST EXCITING THING is i took the 96TH ST BUS!!!!!!
ive had a phobia about taking crosstown busses, & now that ive done it, i cant remember what i was afraid of!

My latest and possibly most shameless plug is on the main board.

Yoko looks so adorable here, Norn. You captured her playful spirit perfectly.
