That's SIR Ridley, you grubby little nonentities---
Director Ridley Scott playing "Monopoly"
Wed Nov 12, 2008 1:16am EST
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - A movie based on the "Monopoly" game is jumping a large number of spaces up the board.
Ridley Scott is officially attached to direct the Hasbro-Universal collaboration, with an eye toward giving it a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic "Blade Runner." Screenwriter Pamela Pettler ("Corpse Bride," "Monster House") will shape a narrative out of the iconic real estate game.
"Monopoly" marks the latest Hasbro property looking to pass go and head to the big screen. Board games and branded properties, such as last year's hit "Transformers' adaptation, have become more attractive as studios look to mitigate risk by finding built-in audiences.
Universal is working with Hasbro on several projects as part of a long-term development deal. Additionally, "Transformers" director Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes banner is producing its feature adaptation of "Ouija Board," while the maritime classic "Battleship" also is in development. Elsewhere, Paramount will next summer release a feature based on its "G.I. Joe" character. And "Trivial Pursuit: America Plays" is now airing as a syndicated television game show.

Trivial Pursuit as a game show makes sense. The others?
Who do you think they'll get to play the iron in Monopoly?

"Who do you think they'll get to play the iron in Monopoly?"
Keanu Reeves, of course!
Well, there was a film (and now a musical) based on Clue. I would love to see what Todd Solondz could do with Sorry. Or how about Quentin Tarantino's Candy Land?
Clue has actual people, though.
Monopoly has a battleship.
Mousetrap!
Tetris. The Musical.
Tim Burton's CandyLand I would wanna see!
But then again, I guess we already did with the one starring Johnny Depp. No no--the other one starring Johnny Depp.
Wes Craven's "Operation!"
I almost typed Tim Burton's Candy Land! But then I realized the redundancy. Christopher Nolan could probably direct the hell out of Chutes and Ladders. And I hear Almodovar is already working on Uno.
I also look forward to Morgan Spurlock's follow up documentary "Burger Time," in which he shows the deplorable conditions in fast food kitchens forcing workers to stomp on hamburger buns, patties and fixings while being chased by mutant sausages, pickles and fried eggs armed only with a pepper shaker.

Threadjack: Morgan Spurlock was in front of the theatre last night and that man is a tall, hunking, fine mofo. Kinda has a 70s gay porn butchness with that facial hair.
What were we talking about?
It's too bad Roman Polanski's Mystery Date was canceled, but I hear Woody Allen is looking at the property.
He'll be playing the dud, right?
Wolfgang Peterson's Battleship
Spike Lee's Chess
Jan De Bont's Twister
Orson Welles' Hungry Hungry Hippos
I cant wait for the porn version of Chutes and Ladders to come out.

I saw the footage from Welles' "Hippos": Brilliant- he shot the hippos seperately then edited them together with wild track dialogue featuring Agnes Moorehead, Joseph Cotton and Ava Gardner. There are only 20 minutes still in existence because the studio took it away from him when he went three months and $1 Million over budget.
Greg Toland's cinematography of the Hippo Picnic is breath taking.

I LOVED Fellini Pictionary! My favorite scene: "The word is 'elliptical'"
"What's certain is that Bergman somehow glides beyond the mere telling of his story into a kind of hypnotic series of events that have the clarity and fascination of dreams. Rarely have I felt so strongly during a movie that my mind had been shifted into a different kind of reality. The scenes at night in the classroom are as intriguing and mysterious as any I have seen, quiet and dreamy, and then disturbing when the mad player 1 calmly and sweetly shows player 2 how everything will be resolved."
Wow. I can not wait to see this.

It's got to be better than Taylor Hackford's "Checkers."
