despite all the bruhaha and planned boycotts of tom and his latest movie..
from eonline! :
War of the Worlds surpassing Mission: Impossible II to become Tom Cruise's highest grossing movie ever, taking in $548.6 million worldwide to date.
what happened kiddies, i thought you said you were not gonna go to his movie?
I didn't.
I did, but technically I didn't pay.
I went, but then, I never said I would boycott it. After seeing it, I should have. Huge disappointment.

THIS Is what I don't understand about Hollywood. Tom Cruise got paid a pile of money for this film, but would it have been any different if it starred Emilio Estevez? It was all about special effects and Stephen Spielberg-- who needs Tom Cruise?
name recognition, box office draw/clout, overseas receipts, publicity. tom cruise's name/PR made a huge difference. while popular, emilio just doesn't draw the fans in beijing like tom does.
I did not see this, nor will I ever pay to see a Tom Cruise movie.
I didn't see it, not that I boycotted anything.
I just like the 50's movie version.
Thanks to Speilberg and Dakota Fanning, they made up for the typical Tom performance...
and I have to say, I actually liked it.
Funny, I'm really not a fan of Tom, but Minority Report, A Few Good Men, and Jerry Maguire are some of my favorite movies.
On the other hand, I won't be paying to see MI3, considering I couldn't get through the first ten minutes of MI2.
I gave my money to Ingmar Bergman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and the penguins.
I certainly didn't, though the movie seems to have disappeared from the radar in the US.
WOTW reaches #47 on the blockbuster list for all time - while still in active circulation.

I saw it. I did say I wouldn't, but there wasn't anything else at the movies that was starting soon, and it was fu(king hot...All I wanted to do was sit in the dark, air conditioned comfort.
**hangs head in shame**
Don't look at me. I saw "Bewitched" instead.
E.T.'s spot in the top 10 is pretty remarkable, considering the rest of the movies there weren't released until about 20 years later in times where you had to re-mortage your house to afford a pair of tickets and popcorn.
I still haven't seen WotW, but Spielberg + Fanning is such a tempting combination.
I'm actually kind of glad the movie proved everyone wrong.
Either way, I thought the movie was very good. Not great, but not a disappointment. It would have been a masterpiece if only Spielberg didn't have an obssession with uber-happy endings...
i thought it was one of the worst spielberg movies ever. for a good (and underrated) spielberg movie, rent A.I.: Artificial Intelligence.
i thought it was one of the worst spielberg movies ever.
Considering his track record, that's not such a bad thing. I thought it was better than Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal.
PS - I (heart) AI.
AI? Ugh.
I did not see WotW...and I think the last Tom Cruise movie I saw was Risky Business.
No, Minority Report.
after watching WOTW, i began to wonder if george lucas co-directed the movie...
