I was struck by this phrase from Keith Olberman's evisceration of Rudy Giuliani. The full quote is:
"Claim a difference between the parties on the voters' chances of survival — and you do Osama Bin Laden's work for him."
And it hit me. That's exactly what's been going on in this country for the last six + years. At every single turn, this Administraion, aided and abetted by their Republican cronies in Congress and ball-less Democrats, seem to have done everything Bin Laden was aiming for on that awful September day.
It's like he knew us better than we knew ourselves. The Constitution has been weakened immeasurably, we, in our blood lust, went after the wrong enemy and we've alienated most of our allies.
It couldn't have gone better...for Bin Laden.
How very sad.

But it goes beyond emboldening, doesn't it?
It seems to me that this is exactly the situation he hoped for with the attacks of September 11. They weren't simply an isolated act of terrible violence and destruction. They were the first domino.

I couldn't agree more, Robbie.
The only hope is a charismatic, principled Democratic president.
Gore.

You're optimistic.
I'm thinking Jesus is gonna have to make a guest appearance and be like, 'Y'all f*cked this one up!'
And I'm serious about that t-shirt. I'll be the first to buy one!

Bin Laden knows all about oil and how the US will react to anything he set out to do. Do you think Bin Laden's funding has been cut? No it hasn't.
The Bush administration has obviously capitalized from 9/11 and the "war" in Afghanistan and war on terror. Do you remember all that Anthrax scare crapola that went on directly after 9/11? Remember how the government was set to stockpile and mass-produce Cipro? Guess what! We haven't.

We'll see, Torch. We'll see.
Nixon came back after losing to Kennedy. Some say Gore never really lost in the first place. As long as he can avoid the media skewering, he could very well make it.

Posted: 4/27/07 at 1:45pmi just really believe that in 2000 he was almost guaranteed a win in the election and did everything in his power to lose it...

I believe that's true of Kerry in 2004 but not Gore in 2000. I think the media conspired against Gore, they way they disliked Nixon look 1960--except the media has much more power and visibility now. (And Nixon was easier to make look bad.)
But Gore actually did not much wrong in 2000. And many people believe he actually WON that election.
If he plays his cards right--and believe me, he's TRYING--he could swoop in at the last moment, before the media can attack him again--and WIN.

Posted: 4/27/07 at 2:13pmIt's very hard to forgive Gore for conceding that election. So much could be different if Bush never happened.

I've forgiven him. I don't think he would have prevailed.
However, I will NEVER forgive the corrupt Ralph Nader and his deluded supporters for taking RNC money and presenting the 200 election to Bush on a silver platter.
In Florida in 2000, the final vote totals had Bush with just 537 more votes than Gore. Nader's 97,421 votes would have constituted a landslide and we would have been spared all the damage to the Constitution and the deaths in Iraq.
