I assume many will go with the obvious: Charles Schulz, Chuck Jones, Matt Groening, Bill Waterston, etc. and I'm not disregarding their accomplishments. Chuck Jones, especially, is responsible for some of the most rewarding cinematic experiences of my life (And the fact that he influenced RAISING ARIZONA only adds to his accomplishment.)
But, as for me, I will go with John Kricfalusi (Or "John K."), a semi-obscure Canadian artist who created Ren and Stimpy. More than that, though, he was the head of Spumco. Spumco was, in my opinion, second only to Pixar as one of the best animation companies ever. The style of Kricfalusi's drawings and the use of color and contour and shape was miraculous. And, due to the vast amounts of time I spent watching Spumco work and Ren and Stimpy as a young seedling, I feel that I should owe my life to John K. and his band of Spumconians.

I don't know any obscure ones to make myself look cool, but even if I did I would still love Scott Adams. Dilbert tickles me and I have most of the books.

Tex Avery, if he counts

F***, man! How'd I forget Tex Avery? He made some of the funniest cartoons I've ever seen in my life. Who Killed Who? is brilliant!

Booth, as in the cats in the New Yorker, is one of them.
Stein is pretty fun, too at times.

My two great uncles, Sy (Seymour) Barry and Dan Barry, who drew The Phantom and Flash Gordon. I didn't know my Uncle Dan (he passed away), but my Uncle Sy is an amazing artist and human being. He was an excellent cartoonist, but it's his paintings that are truly magnificent.
