Oh, Radiohead...you can do no wrong in my mind!

I will marry Thom York one day. He might not be aware of that fact, but it is a fact none the less.
We will have beautiful genius children...-le sigh-

*squee* BECK, Jane?? Awesome.

I would say U2 as well - I think it's the only time an SNL musical guest has given such a riveting performance that it spawned not just one, but two threads that night. Even casual fans or non-fans were impressed, and I was actually trembling from the adrenaline after that show.

And Ashlee Simpson's first performance, natch.

And Prince was good on the Steve Martin episode last month. But my favorite is U2.

U2 was great. I loved when they came back for a third song, with I Will Follow and Bono was all over that girl in the audience...Oh then when he went over and danced with Amy Pohler. She was crying by the end of it and the whole cast was so totally into it. A great moment!

Do you remember that night, Mab? That's the night we first met! You started a thread about it, and so did...GrownUpGroupie or YWIW. And shortly after, because of all the hype that night over their performances (esp. the impromptu one), I started a thread with U2's tour dates, and the rest is history!

Awww.

And I have to admit, Amy didn't make much of an impression on me until she cried when Bono hugged her. And that's when I went, "That's my girl!" and I became a fan. Stupid but true.

Ashlee Simpson, busting out dancing. That, itself was a performance all it's own.

Definitely "Diamonds On The Soles of Her Shoes" by Paul Simon and
"Nothing from Nothing" by Billy Preston.

Also love "Hallelujah Chorus" by the Roches, as well as "I Feel Good" by James Brown and also "Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap.

I will say U2 - amazing - but my truly favorite performance is in its own special category.

It was the performance Simon & Garfunkel did of "The Boxer" for the first SNL show after 911. It was a reprise of their performance on the very first SNL, I think. Anyway, men of the NYPD and NYFD just stood silently, listening - I swear you could see the grief and shock in their eyes still as the camera panned over them, and Giulianni was standing with them. Simon & Garfunkel still sing as beautifully together as they ever did. It was a moment out of myth.

In the clearing stands a boxer
and a fighter by his trade,
and he carries the reminder
of every glove that laid him down
and cut him till he cried out
in his anger and his shame
"I am leaving! I am leaving!"
but the fighter still remains.

Ashlee Simpson's HO-down...Just kidding!

I really liked Queen's appearance on SNL back in the '80s.If I am not misatken, it was their first (and only) performance on an American tlevision show. They did Crazy Little Thing Called Love and were amazing! Freddie Mercury was a great performer we lost too soon. I think I a just remembering this moment because I am going to see Queen (with Paul Rodgers) on Thursday night. I can't wait!

Justthefacts- You took the words out of my mouth. Or the post off of my keyboard. Either way... ditto.

Kelly Clarkson was a lot of fun too. But maybe I'm biased because I saw it liiiiiiiiiive in the studio :)
i'm a tough act to follow because when i'm done i take the microphone with me.
