Fall 1969: Liza Minnelli, The Concord Hotel, just a few months after her mother died (I was 13 and she kissed me backsatge and let me walk her dog)
April 1972, Bette Midler, NYU Bronx campus, followed by seeing her that spring at the Bitter End, the Paramus Playhouse on the Mall, the Schaeffer Music Festival in Central Park and, New Year's Eve at Avery Fisher (then Philharmonic) Hall...but never, sadly, the Continental Baths (I was TOO young!)
Spring 1972: Groucho Marx, Carnegie Hall, brilliant but so sad
August 1973: Ella Fitzgerald, Waterloo Village, New Jersey, the first time of 18 times I saw Ella live
Spring 1984, Tina Turner, The Ritz (now Webster Hall), the mother of all comebacks
June 1994, Barbra Steisand, Madison Square Garden...what is there to say?
August 2006...Patti LuPone in GYPSY at Ravinia!
1. Billy Joel/Elton John 2003
2. Boston Pops 2004
3. Billy Joel/Elton John 1995
4. Gloria Estefan 1997 I think. I always liked her voice, but she is an INCREDIBLE performer. I was surprised how much I liked it.
5, Flogging Molly 2006. Another one that I was surprised that I liked so much

1. Frank Sinatra - He was "the man". I didn't even care for him, but wanted to see the legend. He blew me away. Sergio Mendes and Brazil 88 were his opening act. It was really a great night of music. He was well past his prime, but he still had "it". The orchestra and arrangements were all top notch. I wish everyone had had that opportunity to see a master of interpretation (including his conductor and arranger).
2. Donna Summer - at the height of her heyday. Like Frankie, she knew how to sing. The crowd went crazy.
3. Eric Clapton. Santana was his opening act. Nuff said.
4. Chicago - the rock group. This was before they were well-known and got commercial, and were known as the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority). Once they got well known, it was all downhill from there and their music turned into c---. They had a different "sound" then and their early concerts were positively electrifying.
5. Allman Brothers - Boz Scaggs - Bachman Turner Overdrive -- This was a triple header. A joy to hear musicians play just for the fun of it.
Billy Joel and Elton John put on good concerts. Same with Liza and Bette. Would have loved to have seen Ella and Barbra, and Groucho. Robin Williams was side-splittinig hysterical in his early career when he did stand-up (this was when he was on Mork and Mindy). A great concert that I saw eons ago in Las Vegas was a double-header of Lena Horne and Vic Damone. It was so good to see these old pros.

1. Jimmy Buffett at Fenway Park Sep 2004. It was during the wild ride the Red Sox were on, and he brought in a witch doctor in to "reverse the curse" :) - and guess what - it worked!!!
2. Elton John/Billy Joel

1.) Madonna - Re-Invention Tour
2.) Madonna - Confessions Tour
3.) Madonna - Blond Ambition Tour
4.) Madonna - Virgin Tour
5.) Luther Vandross/Anita Baker - The Heat Tour
1. Nine Inch Nails by far! I first saw NIN on the Fragility 2000 Tour and was blown away.
2. Followed by System of a Down - very energetic
3. Shadows Fall - I was a big fan of this band before I saw them in concert, and seeing them live enhanced that greatly. It was at Ozzfest, so they were a new band to many people, but the audience really responded to them.
4. Dog Fashion Disco - I'm not too big of a fan of this band, but they do put on a nice show.
5. Spineshank - I waited a long time to see this band in concert, and it was worth the wait.

No order:
Bette Midler – I’ve seen her 6 times, and it’s always nothing but the best. She is, for me, the best live entertainer of the last few decades – having taken over from Judy.
B.B. King and Etta James – 1985, in a high school football stadium in Texas - for free. They played for 4 ½ hours, alternately and together. The absolute standard in Blues performance.
Taj Majal and Ray Charles (with his big band orchestra) – 1991 at the Snowmass Jazz festival. Perfect setting, perfect artists – and rich people always have the best treats to enjoy themselves.
Elton John, Billy Joel and Daryl Hall (doing vocals) – it was just a 20 minute set that was a part of the first Farm Aid in 1985, but it was the first time they had performed publicly together. The addition of the ‘white-boy soul’ of Hall was perfect.
John Denver – I saw him countless times over a 20+ year period. What made it great, despite really liking the content of his music, was that everybody always participated. It was like one big camp-fire sing-along every time – and the audiences were ALWAYS the happiest I’ve ever seen when they left.
And I could go on and on. This doesn't even include any classical performances - like Pavaroti at Wolftrap. Live musical performance is one of my favorite things, so picking the top five is absolutely impossible. These were just the first that popped into my head - followed immediately by 'but what about . . . and what about . . .'
