4:45 hrs. on Ch 7 last nite (NY). Had not seen this film literally in decades, and it was FUN! No actor can pull off those Hollyweird Egyptian glittery costumes like YUL! Gorgeous, and his acting was terrific and intense. I LOOOVE him.
So, too was watching the very young extremely beauteous Yvonne DeCarlo, John Derek, Debra Paget, and of course, Heston. Pretty cool DeMille effects for 1956!!

I'm with you on the Yul Brynner thing. He was my first love in life. What a sexy dude.
Watch it on DVD uninterrupted on a flat scren TV. This is the only way to enjoy it.
It was a great film to watch with so many performers trying to out act the other & chew the scenery. Brynner was indeed great in it. The whole production was first rate but the Burning Bush was disappointing and the voice of God was very low.
I recall Billy Crystal doing an impression of Edward G Robinson in his character doing a Little Caesar impression.
Nefertiri - Oh Moses Moses
Doesn't Debra Paget sing something? Death Cometh to Me?
I remember something from The Simpsons that had Chief Wiggum dressed like Edward G. Robinson's character. "Where's your Messiah now?"
Yvonne DeCarlo: Queen of the Z-Grade Sandblasters.

De Milles other Biblical epic is Samson & Delilah.
It has just as many fun moments.Victor Mature overacts as always & Hedy (not Hedley) had to have her dialog redubbed as you could not understand her.
The ending , the detruction of the temple, is a great way to end it.
I guess I've seen 10 Commandments 25 times, but last night I LOL'd at the over- acting of some extras. The fake horror when they saw the chariots coming at the Red Sea-hysterical!

That's the best part, Jane! But I can't help but love The Ten Commandments and how over the top it is.
I also love that we're somehow supposed to find Yvonne De Carlo homely!
Ok, I bet you can answer my question, Blue.
Now, the pharoah and his wife lived in the "castle". So did the two sons, Yul and Charlton.
Ann Baxter was queen of Egypt-how come she also lived there with them? She was not blood related. oy.
Lots of great beefcake in the movie - but E.G. Robinson "topless" a big NO NO!! yech!
Any comments on Anne Baxter?
Her acting in this was horrific to me, but fun to watch the wide-eyed "lust". lol.
...And since when did ancient Egyptians wear pointy push up bras?
Edit: Anyone see DeMille's earlier silent film version? I may have seen it a long time ago, but don't remember. Makes me want to get it on Netflix now....

And now Ben-Hur is on! All we need is Spartacus, my fav!
I love those biblical epics~
My husband made me watch it, and I've already seen it.
I think the acting is awful, and outrageous at the same time.
I had to go in the other room because I couldn't help making comments through the whole thing, like on Scienfiction Theatre.
And I always loved how they rushed right by some of the important facts..
"Get the bread, we are leaving now!"

A cast of thousands, however a couple of very interesting (mostly uncredited) actors:
Jon Peters
Patricia Hitchcock
Richard Farnsworth
Joanna Merlin
Herb Alpert (drummer on Mt. Sinai)
Bobby Clark
Woody Strode
Fraser Heston (the baby)
Henry Wilcoxon (silent film star)
Olive Deering (silent film star)
Robert Vaughan
John Carradine
Michael Ansara
And I keep looking for the guy wearing a watch in the scene where the Red Sea parts, but I can never find him.
Anyone know which one he is?
What??? Where? ( to Diva900... - the watch).
Whaddya think of ya Pharoh now?
"Oh, Moses, Moses, MO-zessssss...you mad, impetuous FOOL of a PROPHET!"
Or something like that...

"Lots of great beefcake in the movie"
John Derek sliding all the way down that big, long, thick rope . . .
*sigh*
OMG!
I think I'm going to die laughing...
Watch this!
HAHAHAHAHA Fabulous!
Yul Brenner is THE reason I watch this movie every single year.
I love the whole thing in all of its brightly-colored, over-acted glory.
Everytime I see it and Yul stands astride the throne with his fisted hands on his hips , I am waiting for "Et Cetera, Et Cetera, Et Cetera"
De Mille also went first class. Brynners sword is obviouly real whereas some epics have guys with rubber swords & spears.

Roxy, that whole routine was hilarious.
Here is a bit of trivia about the movie. De Mille's original choice for Moses was William (Hopalong Cassidy) Boyd . Boyd turned it down because he felt his identification with Hoppy would hurt the film.
The rest is history other than heston was also the voice of God & the Burning Bush
"De Mille's original choice for Moses was William (Hopalong Cassidy) Boyd ."
Great idea, Cecil! I don't think there was an actor who looked less Jewish than Boyd~
