Posted: 5/25/08 at 10:57amwe were lucky with the Bighorn Sheep.....usually there are none out, but a zookeeper was putting out food, and suddenly there were four of them.

Wow, look at that resolution on the flower. Beautiful picture.
I LOVE the sheep's facial expression, Elph!

yeah blue, he was chewing his cud......which I could not see as far as I was away. This thing has a 20 optical zoom, highest of any non DSLR.....love it, and besides regular macro, has a super macro, which is how I got the flower......

iflit, it's an Olympus 570UZ...brand new model, besides regular macro, it has another very close macro setting (up to a centimeter) and an optical zoom of 20, the highest for a non DSLR, even though it looks and acts like a DSLR.
with my Canon and my Nikon D80, I doubt I'll never need to purchase another camera......(well, at least that shut Steve up when I bought this, lol)

I just started a 6 week photography class at the 92nd St Y. Figured it was time to come to terms with developing more than just a point-and-shoot mentality. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...) I had bought a Nikon D40 when my daughter and I went to the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador last year. I realized too late that a lot of my shots could have been so much better if I knew what I was doing. I felt like I didn't quite capture the sense of height or depth in the Andes, and I could have saved a lot of work by using the exposure compensation on the islands.
I'm visiting Egypt in the fall, and I don't want to screw up the pyramids.

I am with you iflit. On our recent trip Steve's pictures of one particular ceiling in the Alcazar in Seville are stunning while mine are dark.....for the reasons you've stated.
Then again, I do think half the battle is knowing when to take the shot.
There are times when I see something, whip out the camera and shoot....and those are my best shots....almost like the camera is calling.
The D40 is a good camera.
