#4How about weeping over freedom here at home?

Why is it that so many of the people who get all weepy and warm and runny inside, watching the Iraqi folks vote, are hellbent on restricting freedom in their own land.
It's too ironic to see the pile-up of events this week: The "freedom is on the march" vote in Iraq just as the new head of Health/human Svcs goes after PBS (threatening to withdraw "taxpayer" funds) for the innocuous cartoon character visiting two momies who run a farm, while the Dept of Education spent "taxpayer's money" to promote the Bush agenda; or Dobson the so called religious leader (pro war, pro guns) going after Spongebob, or Michael Medved and Rush Limbaugh going after MILLION DOLLAR BABY, as though artists are required to create only stories that offer "messages" compatible with rigid belief systems. The last group really sticks in my craw: imagine how upset Limbaugh would be about the PC police in other circumstances? (i.e. PASSION OF THE CHRIST offending Jews. "He's our Savior--get over it!") Yet he wants to expose the end of the Eastwood (a Republican!) film, to encourage a boycott?
Freedom means ... letting people say and do things you don't agree with. Not just weeping in your cereal over people thousands of miles away who have blue ink on their fingers.

freedom means ... letting people say and do things you don't agree with.
which is why i posted the link that i did, august. and it was purple ink. and if ya really want to go out of your head, read dobson's explanation of what he was really after. it wasn't poor spongebob at all, it was the insidious, sneaking "gay agenda."
i'm warning you, though, clicking on the following link might cause irreparable misplaced rage...
i'll kick that cartoon's a** all the way to armageddon!

Thanks, Papa. That Dobson is a dog with a boner, whoops, I mean bone.
Isn't it fascinating the whole "gay agenda" crises is just a sad hrowback to the Anita Bryant era? When she rallied Florida against gays hell-bent on "freshening the ranks." Even in the face of a consensus in the psychiatric community that homosexuality is with us from birth, not an "acquired" preference that promises subsidiary rewards -- you know, "ooooh, that Will Truman is a rich attorney with a nice New York apartment and lots of nice clothes, and he's gay -- I think I'll start sleeping with boys and even though it means selling my soul to the Devil, I'll end up just like Will!"
I love how gay sex is so evil and disgusting and repugnant and stomach-churning -- but apparently, paradoxically, anybody, at the drop of their trou, can be easily convinced that it's soooo much fun, and ought to be tried. Hey, anybody who's spent any prolonged time in an urban gay community knows: it ain't THAT easy to get laid.

excellent point, auggie. i've never gotton why they grill in people's heads that being gay is selling your soul to the devil, but then you really shouldn't watch certain programs, because they might influence you to... sell your soul to the devil. i thought these quotes were weird:
(after the ducument in quostions explains words like hetrosexisim and homophobia)
"Is this the kind of nonsense you want taught to your kids, especially if the nation’s most popular cartoon characters are used to get across the concepts? I pray not!"
well actually james, uh, yeah i'd hope so
"The stated purpose, as we have seen, is to teach children to respect each other and to accept those who are different. We are entirely supportive of that message. I have been teaching it for years."
rrrrrrrreeally?
"Scripture teaches that all overt sexual activity outside the bonds of marriage is sinful and harmful."
then why won't you let us get married, for pete's sake!
"And in the midst of all this secularism, some schools that are having a hard time teaching kids to read, write and compute are giving precious classroom time to homosexual propaganda."
liam proves this case.

Posted: 2/1/05 at 11:20amhmmm, i sense a difference of opinion here in the ease with which one might obtain sex in the gay community. since we all know that all communities (gay, straight, white, black, republican, democrat, hispanic, large-breasted, round-bottomed, lesbian, straight curious, etc.) must and shall speak with one voice on all issues i demand that you two immediately duel to exhaustion using your choice of pick up lines to determine the current stance of the gay community on this issue. please have the winner contact me before collapsing with the results. thank you.
