Self-indulgent, whiney... and TRUE! Good for her for speaking her mind and not giving a rat's ass what anyone, least of all the Academy, thinks about it. F*@K the Academy! F*@K 'em all!!!

With all the vitriol being lobbed at the Academy, why is anyone surprised Brokeback lost? If the Academy is as useless as all the Pro-kebacks having been claiming, why did you even think it would win in the first place?
Perhaps Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry should return their Oscar. That'll show 'em! I mean, they certainly can't believe it has any validity if Academy "didn't get it right" in so many other categories.

Posted: 3/15/06 at 11:01pmMaybe someone ought to raise money for an ad demanding all of Brokeback's Oscars be returned. Ang Lee has nerve keeping his after this slap. RECALL! RECALL!

yea, she shouldn't be upset for losing if she didn't care for the Academy all that much. tsk tsk tsk... definitely should have a recall with no complaints then...

Anne Rice's long-lost twin.
She's not Anne Rice until she bans all fanfic based on her work and then decides to write Jesus' memoirs.

As the over-all tone is bitter and angry at the denial of acknowledgement, calling it a diatribe against the ridiculously self-important academy is a bit of a stretch. It's like biting the hand that isn't trying to feed you.
And if sanctimonious accusations and judgements is what passes for wit, then yes, I guess it was witty.

My point, though, is if she's bitter and angery about being snubbed, denigrating the academy she wants acceptance from is a little off-putting.
No, it's ridiculous.
And I realize this is purely subjective, but writing full of such vitriol and bile could never be 'good' to me - no matter how well it's contructed.

Jesus Christ, Superstar. THIS is the writer that so many people around here praised for her "sparse, economical" prose? Using heffalump twice is outright unforgiveable.
And when I ever got to the part where she wrote, "From the first there was an atmosphere of insufferable self-importance ..." I screamed, screamed did you not SEE Diana Ossana's acceptance speech, Annie??? Her smug "what we've accomplished is SO important" demeanor was so indicative of what fueled the Brokebacklash.
