hey, at least they won't be talking about a schism over gay issues anymore, will they?

". . . the Government allowing civil matters being resolved according to their faith."
This is the kind of capitulation that I fear in the US. How did Huckabee put it? "We need to re-write the Constitution according to God's standards," or something like that.
'Faith' should have no bearing on civic discourse or policy. I wish we could turn this corner.
Chilling.
Why is it that religious leaders of all faiths seem to dwell on punishing and condemning rather than praising and uplifting?
Just my atheist a-- askin'....

I'm sure crackpots like Rosie O'Donnell and John Kerry are cheering him on.
I'm sure you're right--that's exactly what they're doing. It's number one on the agenda, I have no doubt.

I don't get this. They seem like two people who would be against this.
I'll say what Jon Stewart said last night about Romney's farewell speech:
What is this, some kind of conservative Mad Lib?

The Archbishop is saying that British law should be set aside in favor of this group. British citizens don't even get a say in what is going on in their own country.
Rosie O'Donnell has said that Bush should be tried in the Hauge. What she is saying is that American law and ways of doing things should bow to international opinion.
John Kerry has said many times that we should "consult" Europe on many things.
The point is that we in the US need to stick to our way of doing things. We make our laws through our own government and not go around asking opinions of every other government.

I'm not sure I understand what he wants. Does he want to have only Muslims in the UK to be subject to Sharia law, or does he want this for everybody?

What if a non-Muslim gets into a problem with a Muslim. Does the UK use British law or Muslim law? Very scary territory for the UK.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view." - Mike Huckabee
Wait, I thought this thread was about the Archbishop of Cantebury?

I thought it was about Rosie O'Donnell.
Can I ask, why is Rosie such a target? She doesn't have a show anymore, just a blog--like thousands of others who do the same-yet she's singled out for some bizarre purpose--she has no power or platform.
And Gotham, the US went along with international law when the Nazis were the bad guys--was that bowing to foreign pressure as well? Or Milosevic? It seems convenient only when you dislike the defendant.
And a trial is just that--if GW is innocent, then he needn't fear a trial. Like the rationale for the eavesdropping program.
how did my beautiful thread discussing the pros and cons of uk allowing muslims to practice sharia law in a parallel legal system as advocated by the archbishop of canterbury - who would rather people talk about nearly anything but the coming schism in his church over gays - turn into a discussion of rosie?
when will you people stop allowing yourselvesd to be sidetracked by the -- oh look a shiny dime...
you people? who people?
everyone in this thread but me and the sidetracker.
now there are calls for him to resign
