newyorkuniq, have you read Making It On Broadway? There is a quote from Karen Ziemba about how the hardest thing for her has been originating roles in workshops and losing them to celebs who get hired for the actual Broadway productions. It's sad!

I agree about Melanie but I saw Jamie Lynn Siglar in Beauty and The Beast and I thought she was great. Her singing and acting.

It would have been interesting to see Antonio Banderas cast as the Boy from Oz and Hugh Jackman acting like the Italian film director in Nine. Who will come out as more versatile?

I too feel Broadway should not be diluted with celebrities to fill a house. Melanie was definitely wrong for Roxie Hart. I saw her in it. But, I did see Jamie Lynn Siegler (LaScala) and I thought she was great as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. She has a beautiful voice and is a very sweet person.
