My school celebrates National Coming Out Day, the Day of Silence and we have a Gay Pride Week. Does anyone else here have a school like this? (I'm not trying be be sarcastic, I'm just curious)

Posted: 4/16/06 at 12:46ami would call myself a liberal libertarian.... i find the Democratic party far too centrist on social issues to ever fully align myself with them... though during political elections (specifically presidential) i have participated in Democratic campaigns... because a vote for a third party really doesn't count, and a vote against the republican party is REALLY all that matters... hahaha

i was told that libertarians generally voted republican.
and that bill o'reilly is more of a libertarian than a republican. according to someone who read his book, o'reilly opposes prayer in school.

Posted: 4/16/06 at 12:53ami'm pretty young and naive politically, but i believe there is a large differentiation between liberal libertarians and conservative libertarians... it is generally viewed as a more conservative leaning party because of the idea of a much smaller central government (although even Republicans have been moving away from this idea)... but many of the issue-based principles socially, of the libertarians, are extremely liberal... more liberal than democrats are willing to put forth

When I was young I was a "Rockefeller Republican": fiscally conservative but socially liberal. I was too young to vote but I supported the great progressive New York Republicans: Nelson Rockefeller, Jacob Javits, John Lindsay, Ed Koch (!), Bill Green...so many wonderful principled Republican statesmen!
Then I came to understand that Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan had sold the soul of the GOP to the Christian Right Wing. So-called "liberal" Republicans and so-called libertarians were being duped into ENABLING a right-wing takeover of the Republican Party--and ultimately of the nation itself.

I wound up with a personal score of 51%, and an economic score of 61%, which according to the quiz makes me a moderate, with a lean slightly toward conservative on fiscal issues (are there ANY true fiscal conservatives left out there??? Ross Perot??).
Incidentally, this is exactly what I thought I was, so the quiz results don't surprise me.

As a Canucklehead I find this interesting- esp w what has happened in my own country. I usta be what was called a red Tory- but as I've said, the Conservative name was highjacked by the Reform Alliance a group only slightly to the left of Gengis Khan. True they only have a minority goverment now but as they keep quiet and move carefully, they will almost certainly get a majority next time and G*D HELP US then.
So as of this month I *gulp* am joining the Liberal party- @ least I'll feel I tried to save my country.
