I want to second SOMMS congrats to the Appalachian State Mountaineers on their second straight Division 1 Championship Subdivision (isn't 1-AA easier?) national championship! ASU is also my alma mater.

(BTW -- also congrats to the 10-3 ASU basketball team who just won the San Juan Shootout with wins over Virginia, Central Florida, and Vanderbilt)

Perhaps Elphaba, but this is, essentially, a home game for New Mexico, which is why they are 3.5 point favorites.

I'm a little depressed right now. My dad was saying that we would probably buy tickets and go to the Rose Bowl, but it's not happening. Oh well, I'll be happy sitting at home and watching it on TV

DBilly, doesn't matter...I gre-up in San Jose, well...Saratoga. This is huge up there right now as they have stunk for so many years. NM doesn't have a chance.......mark my words

Well, in this case you were right, Elphaba, but I have to disagree with the "This is huge up there right now as they have stunk for so many years" argument. Trust me. I went to Northwestern. No one stunk worse than NU for "so many years," and we still lost the 1996 Rose Bowl. If only something being huge guaranteed a win.

If only NM could have held on to the ball in the fourth quarter ... three fumbles?!?

I think it is team to team regarding who gets up for a big game.
And we all know that playing for Barnett means you don't have to "get up" on the field.

NM played a fairly awful game all around, until the last minute fifty.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

I agree, smart, about the game, and fortunately for SJSU they played a slightly less awful game than NM.

Now, as for Barnett, well I would like to think he was clean as a coach while at NU. While his days at Colorado cast doubt on that, I will hold that thought until I am shown otherwise.

As for NU in the Rose Bowl, they were up for the game; it just took them a while to hit their stride. I think big-time bowl action was a tinge overwhelming. The first half was rough, and the "fumble" by Brian Musso that USC ran back for a touchdown was a killer. But, boy, did they make a game of it in the second half! It was a privilege to be a fan of NU at that game!

U used to go to NU games when I lived in Chicago......I was there one time when they played Mich State, and Oregon scouts were in the stadium as at the time it looked like Oregon versus MSU for the Rose Bowl (which did not happen).

I also was there in the late 1980's when NU beat Indiana in the then Dyche Stadium, first home NU win in years apparently, and they went nuts tearing down the goalposts....heck, you would have thought that was the NC.

Elphaba, at NU we treat every victory as though it was the national championship ...

I tend to agree about Barnett DBilly, I think it was a culture of corruption at Colorado that he just kept going, rather than a personal issue.
I remember loving to watch those mid nineties NU teams.

Oh Roxy, I hope that comment was tongue in cheek.

Agreed, elphaba, though I might have invited a little more grammar into my response.

re: are you ready for some football? the college years

I think for those of us who have been posting on this thread since the beginning, as opposed to Roxy-come-lately, college football is a purer, and therefore, more enjoyable form of the game.

With gutsy coaching, come-from-behind victories, and close games that perhaps shouldn't have been, the last two days have had everything that makes college bowl season great!
