what are the auditions for?

I Know big Spender from Sweet Charity is pretty popular.

It depends on the duet I guess....

Fear no more the heat o' the sun, Nor the furious winter's rages; Thou thy worldly task hast done, Home art gone and ta'en thy wages: Golden lads and girls all must, As chimney-sweepers, come to dust. ~Cymbeline

Hello!!!

there is a great list of overused songs for auditions and you can find it here..

http://www.nicoth.com/articles/bad_auditions.htm

However, always follow your own judgement. If you think the song you have chosen is the best piece for you and you KNOW it shows off your voice amazingly then by all means go for it. Just try and stay away from things that are classics such as anything by Barbara, Bernadette, or anyone like that.

It is perfectly acceptable to sing duet songs, as long as you are only singing one part from it. For example if you chose the song "I'd give it all for you" from songs for a new world, and you only needed 16 bars for your audition. You could sing just the female part from it. However, you usually don't want to combine a duet into one piece and try to sing it. If there is a particular song you are looking for, there are books out there that have already done this to a lot of songs, the musical theater anthologys do this a lot I believe.

As for spamalot I would personally stay away from it, I personally do not know if it is overdone as much as it is almost too current.

Hope I could help! If you have any other questions about anything feel free to PM me I love helping! :)

spamalot is WAY too recent -- stay away. if you're REALLY into sara ramirez, find out other stuff she's sung and try that out
