auto accidents

Is it just me, or are there more and more car accidents on the road lately? I was thinking I'm a bit more sensitive to this because I'm the survivor of two serious accidents, but it seems as though there's one every morning as I drive to school and yesterday there was a dreadful one right in town.

Yesterday's NEWSDAY ran a front page story about how 5 teeenagers were killed in 5 different accidents in one week on Long Island.

What's going on here?

Wow that's horrible.

We just had a terrible accident in the neighboring school district. Two teenagers were killed and the third, the driver, seriously injured. These kids had been out partying, and the driver didn't even have his liscence, since it had been revoked due to a previous conviction for burglary. The worst part? The beer at at least one of the parties these kids went to was provided by a neighborhood woman. Apparently, in exchange for doing lawn work, she bought this student 7 cases....yes, 7 CASES, of beer. She's also now in jail.

By the ripe old age of 27, I've been in four auto accidents, two in which my car was totaled. One was my fault; the others were just horrible luck -- or good luck, as I've never been injured more than a few cuts and bruises. I'm so glad I no longer own a car and now have to worry only about getting run over.

i was in 1 almost 2 years ago driving home from work on the I-90 out of buffalo. and old lady was switching lanes, me in clear view, and she went right into my front passenger tire, setting it out of place, causing me to lose control. flew across 3 lanes of traffic, off the side of the road where i flipped and rolled up a hill 3 or 4 times, sliding down into the ditch right side up. looking at the damage, i should have died. i would have if i wasn't buckled. came out with minor injuries... few small gashes and a major brush burn on my back.

call it bias, but i totally support old people getting retested. i wasn't in any blind spot. since then i've seen MANY old people make stupid mistakes because they aren't watching. luckily nothing happened from them.

Zep--OMIGOSH. The I-90 is such a busy place, too. Cars everywhere.
I am so glad you were okay. Was she trying to go to the 400 or towards PA...those are bad spots. (I also detest the 33 entrance/exit combo)

My boss' wife was in a bad accident this week. Flipped and totaled their huge monster stationwagon and had to be cut out of the wreckage. Luckily she came away with bruises and a chipped vertebrae. Her seatbelt saved her.

Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

... which makes being hit in a parking lot today seem even less of a big deal than when it happened.

maybe the fact that those new lexus's have barely any break light doesn't help, especially during the day, just a little tiny red dot appears, you actually have to look to find it, beware if you are behind one!

I was in one last weekend.

We were all okay.

Not our fault.

We were in a Volvo...those things are like tanks. I see guys (hot guys usually) driving in those Jeeps with the canvas tops, and I think to myself how absolutely dangerous that must be.

Me and 3 of my friends were walking across the road to dance the other day, and one of my friends walks out into the road and gets hit. Thank God nothing seriously happened. She was up and dancing the next week.

I agree the elderly should be tested...and some of the younger folk, too. I've seen some pretty nutty things done by drivers of all ages. And it seems that there's never a cop around when people do these things. On the other hand, if I drove like that (and I'm not saying I'm a perfect driver :)), the whole freakin swat team would be all over me.
