i debated on whether or not to post about this but i feel like i have alot of friends here who wouldn't judge me for something like this.
from the 19th to the 26th i was inpatient in the psych unit at uconn. i got admitted for depression. i was supposed to stay untill the 27th but signed myself out a day early because i was physically abused by a nurse on the unit. i reported her but i have a feeling nothing will be done about it because after the nursing manager told her i reported her she had this dumb smirk on her face all day and laughed about it with the other nurses.
i had to go to the ER after i was discharged (two days later) because of an infection that (surprise) i picked up on the less than sanitary unit.
they saw that i had been an inpatient and what unit i was on and i was treated like crap. the infection was in my upper arm (it started at an iv site that was never cleaned by the staff) and the doctor said he needed to feel under my arm to feel my lymph nodes. he felt under my arm and they started to move a little bit at a time to my chest until i had to tell him to stop and that he was being inappropriate. he just shrugged and didn't say anything.
i know several people who have had wonderful experiences at the uconn emergency room, people who say the doctors and nurses and cnas are really great.
why is it that if you've been to a hospital for a problem like depression, the staff from the rest of the hospital thinks it's ok to treat you like you're less of a person?
i went there voluntarily, and i'm treated like this as a result?
