my original earbuds for my iPod are starting to deteriorate - the coating around the buds is chipping and the covering is splitting towards the bottom.
I have a pair of Bose noise-cancelling earbuds, but I use those for "special" occassions - I am looking for an everyday-use earbud to replace these.
I know Apple has good ones, but the Apple store is quite a drive from where I live while there is a Best Buy literally across the street.
I went into Best Buy last night and was overwhelmed by the options, and the sales people weren't as knowledgeable or as helpful as I had anticipated.
Any suggestions?

I recently bought these earbuds because much like you, my Apple's were just wearing out and becoming uncomfortable. They're by Nixon and you can buy them from Karmaloop.com (but they're from the girl's section)
I also got these for my job and if I'm just walking around with my iPod. They are by WeSC (We are the Superlative Conspiracy) and called the Stash Bongo Headphones. Also at Karmaloop.com
Good Luck!!!

i appreciate the fact that skullcandy is inexpensive, but does that signify anything regarding the quality?
also, from the pics of their products it seems a bit juvenile.

I'm a big fan of Sony's...they're just called fashion earbuds, I think.
They're about $10 at Target and come in a few different colors (no, pink is not the standard. I have gray ones and I think there are blue, green and purple as well). Every time I lose them or my hamster chews through the cord, I always find myself going back to this brand. They're comfortable, good quality.

They are better than the ones that come with the ipod. I think the quality is great. They look like any other earbud.

My daughter is fond of the JVC Gummys ($10 pretty much everywhere) and on a whim, I picked up a pair of Coby Noise Isolation earbuds for $6 at Jack's 99 cent store last year and I love them. Much better than the various tinny Philips buds I've spent two to three times more on.

I love the Gummys that were mentioned above.
They come in a huge variety of colors.

I'm a fan of V*moda Vibe. They are expensive ($100) but worth it, in my opinion. I got mine at the Apple Store. Should you care, I have the blue ones.

Posted: 3/6/09 at 5:28amI don't know about earphones but I've had my Bose around-ear headphones for months and I love them. Actually, the ones I'm using now are my second pair because the cord on my first pair got caught on something and ripped, and Bose sent me a new pair free of charge.

I use Philips Surround Sound Ear Buds. I'm on my second pair (my cat ate the first). They're inexpensive, very comfortable, and the sound quality is fantastic.

From Best Buy

Sennheiser, Elph. They make professional audio equipment. Pricey, but fantastic quality.

Posted: 3/6/09 at 10:30pmI like the Philips Surround Sound Ear Buds too, but I find they don't last too long if you use them every day for several hours. Still, I keep on buying them or the JVC Gummy ones, though the Philips have a better sound.

Get JVC Marshamllows. They are no more than $20 and go right in your ears and block out all outside noises. In some cases they are good and some cases they are bad. I still wear them all of the time, though. Here are the ones I have:

Some of the products are really uncomfortable like SHURE where you have to put it inside your ear canal. Its very pricey, though sounds great but very uncomfortable!
SHURE Ear phones ($225.00- $349.99)

This one really sounds excellent but very uncomfortable!
