And really, really badly written. He comes across as a loon.
Actually, I think he makes a lot of sense. You must be one of those delusionals to whom he is referring, Ghostlight.
Despite all the tangents, he does have a point. Equity isn't always efficient as they should be, and does commit it's fair share of frivolity. However this is a rant about one particular incident, and any good actor would have done their research to know that there is no chorus in the show. Hardly something to get your HO HO HO panties in a bunch over.
Unless you are the producer being forced to rent two halls for no reason.

I never said he was wrong, Sueleen. I said he wrote poorly and comes across as a loon, and he does, with his mentons of Xmas lights, his birth sign and other things that have nothing to do with his point. He muddies his point. From the article linked to - his own words:
"It’s when power and ignorance meet that causes my Virgo logic to be vexed".
Just WTF does his birth sign have to do with this issue?
"Give a gay man some lights and empty space and what do you get? High electric bills".
Just WTF does this have to do with this either?
"(If you don’t know what a required call is there’s half a chapter on it in my book. That’s not a plug. My fingers are bitches and object to retyping what they’ve already toiled upon.)"
I pointed out he's a poor writer. He desperately needs an editor. And it is spam or at least shilling (not that I really have a problem with that, people do it here all the time). But how does that make me delusional?
Oh, I was just teasing.
But he does have a valid point and does try to explain why he went off on the tangents.

Sueleen-I agree. I was just saying that slinging mud over this incident is a little dramatic.
I am a member of AEA. I fully support unions and believe that ultimately, Equity is a great union that protects actors and aids in the quality of professional theatre.
Having said that, they could stand to be more practical if those accounts are indeed accurate (not hearing AEA's side of the story, one should take pause). Theatre is becoming so incredibly expensive to produce. Why on earth complicate things with unnecessary provisions? Fairness must work both ways. So, hopefully this matter can be resolved amiably.
There are other matters Equity should take a second look at (the showcase code, for example PLEASE), but I have found that while a union rule may seem absolutely ridiculous, it is often put in place for very valid reason reason that explanation would convey easily. The exception is where said rule doesn't fit with a specific project. Then, one would hope a waiver could be put in place, but sometimes, you can't budge because if you give an inch, they'll take a mile.
Ghostlight I think he heard you. The x-mas stuff is gone.
