caution: low expectations will make Palin an overnight sensation

I only watched about 15 or 20 minutes of her speech but I was repulsed and embarrassed to be a woman. While Obama/Biden criticized McCain's policies while showing him respect as a POW (didya hear?), Palin went straight for the jugular...attacking Obama's persona. I don't remember the exact quote (and I'm too angry to bother looking it up), but the comment about how because he's a good speaker doesn't mean he'll be a good President. WHY do they have to be separate from each other? And she made some comment about him parting the seas or something... isn't that the media's perception, not Obama's?
She is a petty, smug woman.

I would have agreed with you Borstalboy a few days ago, but I don't think so anymore. Her base seems to love her and they are haling her the RNC's Obama, a rock star to the party. Her scandals only make her look like the underdog. I think she will stay in and I think they know the angle they will play all of this. I am afraid the same America who voted for Bush in 2004 will buy this act unless they screw up somehow.
Still, I hope you are right.

She still has time. I'm anxiously awaiting her anti-Semitic church to make the headlines.
God bless Rachel Maddow for getting her words out there.

Posted: 9/4/08 at 11:34amShe will not drop out. Republicans cannot and will not admit they are wrong. We just have to hope that some of this stuff comes out to let the people see how she was not well-researched!
#31Queen of Mean II is born
Posted: 9/4/08 at 11:38amShe's not going anywhere.

Posted: 9/4/08 at 11:46amThe only thing we can hope for is that more 'questionable' items show up that would throw her message and her conservative base off the track. The Republican party leadership of the last 30 years has never let an inconsequential item like 'truth' stand in their way. Just as the conservative Republican voters have never let the lack of truth keep them from voting along party lines.

BB, unless she has had an affair or used coke, she is not going anywhere. This shrill hick is now the new face of the party.
There is no reason for Biden to back off! She went after Obama with a knife last night. She denegrated community service, is that the new mantra of their party?
And, I still cannot believe that the party of "family family" is parading teen pregnancy as a badge of honor.

And they have shrewdly established new boundries to make sure the expectations stay low and hands stay off: if you say a word against her, make a judgement about her experience, her hypocrisy as a parent, her mediocre education and track record, you're one thing -- "sexist!" And even Tom Brokaw said "the press will give her some time to prepare, AS THEY SHOULD..."
As they should?! Why, Tom? Why should she get to cram with Vice Presidency For Dummies? It's an appalling mis-application of everything the feminist movement bled for. And makes a mockery of the presidency.
I saw a group of women on TODAY "debating" the mother vs. career "dilemma" in terms of Palin, and they fell into the old "if she was a man, we wouldn't question these things..." Huh? Never mind that if this particular woman were a man, she wouldn't have been anywhere near that convention last night. We are talking about the vice presidency of the US, the 2nd highest position in the still free world. Her ability to "juggle" is actualy a topic!
She should be able to breast feed her baby, race off, kick some ass at a cabinet meeting, come home and make caribu club sandwiches for her hunk husband, clean up some morning sickness puke off the rug from her miserable daughter, race back to kick some more whiny Democrat ass in congress, and come home and bake a Beaver Pie (!) before slipping into bed for some baby-making nookie.
The only person juggling anything is the electorate taken in by this character right out of Margaret Atwood's HANDMAID'S TALE. A juggling hockey mom who thought a small town in Alaska needed a stand on choice and the mayor needed to be a Christian.
And by the way: I hate her voice. I'm allowd to hate her voice if I want to, just like people walked out of FIDDLER when Harvey garbled lyrics like chipped marbles as Tevye. We're alowed to have a visceral response to anyone we want -- that ain't what feminism is about.

Good gawd, Auggie. That last post was brimming with so many delicious morsels, I can't even decide which to choose! Brilliant, just brilliant.
All I know is...I'm stopping at Borders on my way home tonight to see if they have copies of Vice Presidency for Dummies AND The Handmaid's Tale!
P.S. Her voice could cut steel.

Miss P, so is that a good thing?!

Posted: 9/4/08 at 4:02pmIt's not just the voice- it's the smug attitude that accompanies it! She doesn't seem humble that she was asked to take this position. It's like she thinks she's entitled to it!

Another great post, Auggie. Keep 'em comin'!
Over on slate, they're discussing how Palin's nastiness last night resembles Ann Coulter's...like "I'm pretty so I can say really whatever foul sh*t I want".
But here's the thing: People are sick of Ann Coulter's sh*t. They're beginning to see through it. Are the McCain advisers living in 2003? I guess only time will tell how much of this tired, TIRED nonsense and incompetence the people of the U.S. will see through and put up with.

The smugness of Palin and the delegates was just sickening.
This economy sucks, the housing market has crashed, we are still in Iraq, Bush sqandered the good will of the world following 911 and they are cheering a joke about pitbulls and lipstick! CLASSLESS!
The good news is that McCain should lull them all to sleep tonight.
