"Bush sqandered the good will of the world" you forgot to add - and the budget surplus.....

my favorite blurb of the night was from mr. Fred "law and order" Thompson

to paraphrase:

"you know, if you listen to our opponents, (he never said dems or libs, he always used the word opponents) the economy is falling apart, people are losing jobs, gas prices are up, and all in all the world is spiraling downward, but guys, this is America, and as Americans, we are all awesome. Suck it, opponents."

I guess there's no arguing with that type of logic.

"I'm an American, Damnit!!! And if it's three things I don't believe in, it's quitting and math."

After weeks of stalemate and acrimony at this board, the Clinton camp vs. that of the Obama, it seems we are all finally united, choking together on the acrid smoke billowing from and around this smoldering red meat carcass from Alaska.

As they used to say after 9/11, why do they hate us? I tried to step back, and picture them all watching Obama last Thursday, fit to be tied, seething, at the man's call to inspire.

I keep thinking of a favorite line from A DELICATE BALANCE, when Claire says:

"I apologize that my nature is such to bring out in out the full force of your brutality."

Clearly, Obama's nature is such.

Alas, we haven't yet seen even half of their full, brutal force, with Palin calling them to a battle royal. And resign? She'll take McCain and the party down with her before she does that.

I don't know where to post anymore:

Bet Bush pardons him.
Abramoff gets four years

I didn't know Tina Fey was running for Vice President.

I joke because I too, am afraid. Palin's Barbara Stanwyck attitude is going to make that damned Heartland America-that-you-fancy-city-folks-look-down-on fall in love with her. It was scary to see the well-fed wattles-and-jowls crowd nodding and smiling at all of Palin's points, cheering or booing until you expected her to silence them herself. Where we see "smug", they'll see "tough, gutsy underdog." And her wisecracks, though cutting, were genuinely funny (unlike Mike Huckabee's lame quip in her defense--"The press for the last few days has been as tacky as a costume change at a Madonna concert." Ah, that hip, up-to-the-minute Republican humor.)

Attacks on her family will inspire more boring screeds about the evil (and fictional) "liberal media" and give her the chance to repeat the phrase "hockey mom" 50 million times. Batting the word "inexperience" around will only hurt Obama. And the corruption investigation(s) back home will look increasingly desperate. Democrats should frankly ignore her and hope that she fades back into the woodwork in the next two months. And that the VP debate is somehow both quick and dull.

I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

SO happy Obama is STILL ahead in the polls. And I don't think Santa's speach tonight will change anything.
