has cost $364m over the last 10 years. what a waste.
just admit that some members of the military are gay
It's one of the greatest hypocrisies our nation has ever endured. The ban should be lifted--the sky will NOT fall.
WOW!
A Question! This is something I've always wanted to know!
Let's say I got drafted(thank goodness, I'm almost out of those eligible years but around 2002 and 2003 it pretty scary). If I were to say I was gay, like admit to it, would they just send me home? But then, since I didn't go, would I be robbed of rights like social security or something?......all the things that you are robbed of if you don't sign your draft card.
Just Wondering what would happen to me should the situation ever arise.
of course they have NO problem making us their corpses in Iraq..........gays are ok then.
Just change it to:
"Don't ask, don't tell... and don't kid yourself."
The real disaster is the number of linguistic experts in Farsi and other Arabic languages that we have lost because of this ridiculous policy.
i think the policy was ammended to prevent the kind of quick exit that you're suggesting, mtv. but here's a decent resource on the policy.
sldn on dadtdpdh (don't ask, don't tell, don't pursue, don't harrass)
nope.. during draft time, those policies are generally waived...
there were tons of loud screaming queens in Vietnam dying to get home.. doing drag and told "sorry, girlie, you're here to stay"
Well, that's just wrong. What age is the "safe age"? Is it when you turn 25 or when you turn 26?
MTVMANN--I highly recommend Conduct Unbecoming by Randy Shilts--the history of gays and lesbians in the US military from the American Revolution to the first Gulf War. It's a stunning book.
unfortunately, mtv, the department of defense recently announced in a very quiet ceremony that "there is no age limit for drafting homosexuals." this came after admitting that dod computers were targetting likely gays for drafting based on review of their library records and internet habits.
donald rumsfeld himself was quoted as saying, "we're gonna use those nancies as cannon fodder until our troops can cascade across a pink carpet to victory."
i'd flee if i were you.
It'd be funny, Papa, if it didn't ring so true.
So you're saying that for a gay man there is no age-limit for draft regulations
and for a straight man, it stops at age 25 or 26?
SAD! But the thing is, how do they know I or anyone is gay?
MTV, honey I think that he was being sarcastic...I hope so at least.
i would never joke about something like this.
Papa definitely wouldn't. And he has the gay corpses in his basement to prove it.
careful, bway, you don't want a visit from shakes.
hmmmm, I wonder if Broadwayworld.com would qualify as a 'gay' website?

Papa, I thought I saw him on my fire escape in the snow on Saturday.
*shivers*
My cousin was in the Air Force. He was passionate and committed - it was what he wanted to do his whole life. He was a dedicated pilot - dedicated to his country and his military position.
He had to have a secret email address to communicate with his family and friends so he could speak freely about himself and his life and who he really is. He was in love - had a partner whom he had to hide. The pressure and constant fear hanging over his head finally forced him to leave.
That's the good that Don't Ask, Don't Tell has done for the military.
