I can to Papa. It's just the double standards that always amuses me. One set of rules for a Republican administration and another set of rules for a Democratic administration. Joe Biden, Michelle Bachman, and so on. I guess it wouldn't be a Thursday if an Obama critic was not criticizing Obama for something he or someone in his administration said earlier that day.

It's really kind of indefensible if only b/c it's common knowledge that Biden gets in trouble so often when he speaks. He (and his people) should have learned what to say and how to say it by now.

Still, if this is the biggest mistake the VP makes, I'll take it.
It's not like he was surreptitiously convincing us to go to war or anything.

Kind of dumb for him to say what he said, but most people I know were already following that advice.

Except, of course, for the idiots on LA's Board of Supervisors, who, so far, have not pulled the permits for tomorrows MayDay Demonstrations. Yeah, 100,000+ people aggregated together in various part of downtown LA to protest immigrant rights. Not the best timing.

Everyone I know who usually takes the bus or other rapid transit is driving in tomorrow, specifically to avoid interacting with everyone - and that decision was made before Biden said anything. Many are staying home and working remotely if they can, or if not, taking the day off. He said what many people are already thinking and doing.

see there's the hypocrisy:

people who defend the stupidity or write it off but who were incensed when republicans did the same thing and vice versa.

since i tried to mostly ignore all but the most egregiously stupid examples when dubya ruled the world, i feel comletely justified now in pointing out every single little faux pas that occurs. just exactly like many of you did for eight years. the only difference is that there were a lot of you doing it, and now the only logical ones come from me.

what i see is this: you felt bush was an idiot and saw every slip as evidence of that idiocy and a reason to trumpet it as such, yet you think obama & co. are brilliant so evidence to the contrary is simply excused as the kind of mistakes anyone would make and not worth comment.

Papa, I honestly did not think Bush was an idiot - I think he is a bad public speaker, and not good in crowds, but have heard that on a one-on-one basis, he us quite thoughtful and articulate.

Many of us, even though we did not vote for him in 2000, gave him a fresh start after 9/11 - I supported the war in Afghanistan, but started to part ways when Iraq was proposed. The arrogance, and lack of forethought and planning by his Administration on fundamental issues just astounded me. It was as though guys who played Risk their whole lives now got to play with real soldiers and kind of decided to "wing" all post-war activities.

Then, I saw the fiasco of the RX plan, No Child Left Behind, Katrina failures, warrant less wiretapping, torture, and no accountability and I said "enough".

Bush earned my scorn and lack of respect.

I understand why you do what you do, but I think you also need to understand that many of us who criticized Bush did so because we feel he failed on a fundamental level, not because he is a Republican.

Obama has done OK, but has made some missteps. But, generally, I think he has done a good job trying to get his arms around some of the more complex issues we face. You disagree with him on significant policy issues, and I can respect that.

EDIT: Namo, in part, because I want to give him some time to reassess and review. There are some things he is doing in part out of respect for the prior President (and to avoid a partisan war, which you may, or may not, agree with) some, because it is hard to give away power once you have it, and some, because he has not had the time to fully assess what the appropriate action should be. Some positions may mature and change once there is time to assess and review things fully. But, I am certain he will take positions I do not support, and I will be disappointed.

Funny, now a White House Aide has demonstrated flu-like symptoms and his family members have tested probable for swine flu.

It is a gaffe, just not that big of one in my eyes. It is actually good advice to follow (IMO) until we discern what is going on but not something the VP should say say out loud. Common sense and business interests sometimes don't intersect.
