They needed your credit card number and you had to pick a subscription service but you wouldn't be charged during your trial or the subscription if you cancelled before the trial account was over. I'm worried now because although I cancelled my trial I still have an account there, and I don't want to be charged...I know I kinda signed up on impulse, that's how they target stupid college students...anyone more familiar with this service.

Posted: 3/19/06 at 3:21pmI got 100 free downloads from them. I cancelled about a month ago and no charges were ever sent to my credit card. Their selection is kind of crappy, but I was able to get a few cast recordings I wanted.

Posted: 3/19/06 at 3:42pmYeah, their selection is awful...but I got the 2001 Godspell tour recording from them 2 years ago--I didn't recognize anything else. The Godspell tour cast recording couldn't be found anywhere else online at that time.

Their selection isn’t as bad as everyone here is making it out to be; they just don’t carry major label releases (their whole hook is that they only carry music from independent labels).
I’d never even heard of the site until about a month ago, but apparently eMusic is second only to iTunes in digital music sales (Rolling Stone did an article on them recently).

I never got charged, but the selection sucked. What I did attempt to download, however, didn't work on my computer. I think you needed some special player or something, which I wasn't going to download. How can they be second to iTunes? iTunes has 100 times the selection eMusic does. Or is it the iTunes equivalent with indie selections?

I guess “second to iTunes” is all relative; according to that RS article, iTunes is number one with 83 percent of all downloads.
