from the fingers of the former golden child protege of noam chomsky...

This by the same Christopher Hitchens who went on a crusade to prove that Mother Teresa was the bitch nun from hell. He's a smart man, but sadly he just uses his smarts to attack things, without principle, without beliefs, without integrity.
here's a pretty good article giving a history of who hitch was and is from the point of view of one who laments his late turn towards the neo-cons.

I'll take Ariana Huffington moving over to our side over Hitchens any old day of the week. Cuz she's one thing he'll never ever be: Fabulous. Like a smart and savvy Lisa Douglas. I'd give anything to have a breakfast of hots cakes and steaming hot mud coffee and political discourse with her.
admit it, namo, yer a sucker for the accent!
What I can't understand is his support for the Iraq war. If Islamofacism is truly what he's against, what's his beef with Iraq? Saddam was a horrible dictator and, yes, in the end, the world may be better without him...or not. It's just (more than) possible that Iraq may become a theocratic society. Which is what Hitchens seems to fear most. How does he reconcile this in his mind?
And PLEASE invite me to that breakfast with Arianna 'I'm the lost Gabor' Huffington.
here's one explanation

Now we're into nation building. Toppling a regime and installing a democracy in Iraq. And unless I read the piece incorrectly, he's still convinced that WMD were there.
In the end, he's looking at a best-case scenario. One that contained a brilliant exit strategy. But could there be an exit strategy now that would produce the desired results for the neocons. I can't see it. Maybe it's there and it's going to happen. But I'm hard-pressed to find the good outcome right now.
i think the date on that piece was wrong and that it was done a while back. ah, yeah, looking back now it says 9/25/2002.
